Have any of you received an acceptance that makes you not care about what other schools do anymore?

I just heard back from Vanderbilt yesterday and it is such a huge relief. I had been so stressed waiting to hear back, calling schools, frantically checking SDN for more info, etc until I heard from them.

What schools did this for you guys?

Hopkins!!!! I just cancelled my other interviews left. Felt bad but that gives space for someone else this early.

Yeah i already have interviewed at most places. Not going to withdraw because financial aid can still definitely skew things.

When I got into Wisconsin I canceled all of the other interviews I had left....and then I got into Mayo on Monday. 😀😀😀

"OH MY GOSH LOOK WHAT SCHOOL I GOT INTO..." blah blah blah

I don't think there's any school that would make me withdraw all of my other applications...so far the interview day has been such a huge influence on my opinion of the schools I'm applying to that I'm very hesitant to make any final decisions until I've seen a school in person. When I got my acceptance I withdrew from some safeties but that's about it. Wish I could be as confident about any single school as some of the people around here are!

yeah my bad guys

i was just so excited about this.

and i really dont like talking about things like this in real life so i thought why not on an anonymous internet forum. didn't think i would be hurting anyone.

just wanted to some how get all of this excitement out of me.

Hey, it made me feel good to 'hear' your relief! Everything you've been working toward for all these years has all of a sudden materialized! How wonderful for you. Congrats. You have a right to be on cloud nine and to share your good fortune. So many posts make me sad for people or frustrated. Nice to share in your joy.

the time between acceptance and matriculation is the best. make the most of it. it really is an awesome feeling and i'm happy for you :highfive:

so yeah i totally agree with your post, but the part where you solicited people's winning school choices kinda brought in the haters. i can see why, but oh well.

*cough cough.....I just got accepted to Harvard 🙂

im jk

....says the person with the cheering "CLASS OF 2015" sig.....😉

I, for one, will join my peers in screaming the news of our acceptances from the mountaintops.

I felt that my first acceptance made me care a lot less, even though it may not have been my top choice overall.

+1

and to the OP, I was just giving you a hard time. grats on the acceptance.

I find these threads encouraging and I empathize with the individuals who worked hard, volunteered long, and scored well to get where they are.

I actually get little blasts of joy and motivation from reading these threads.

I'm happy for you! I know exactly what you're feeling. After I got into USUHS I stopped caring about other schools. Once you have your heart set on a particular school, it's hard not to be totally elated when you get accepted. So we can be happy about it!

I can't say my acceptance has made me not care, but it does take the stress off of my upcoming interviews and I can just enjoy them. 🙂

Congrats Dr. Gerrard and all others sharing acceptances in this thread!

Nah, I guess I can understand where some of the other posters are coming from but I was actually looking forward to people's stories. It makes me happy to see others happy...taboo for premeds, I know.

I am from Texas and I got a couple of pre match acceptances. My top choice overall came in the morning, then as other acceptances rolled in it just wasnt as exciting anymore. I declined a couple, but I am going to hold on to the others for a bit longer. When this cycle started I had hopes of getting in somewhere, but I never thought id get in to my top choice this early or that I would be turning down acceptances, its kinda anticlimactic actually. I am definitely happy though, and Im just waiting to see what they offer financially.

Thanks guys! Congrats to those who have been accepted, and to those who haven't, keep your chin up.

What makes me even happier about this is that it took me 11+ weeks to hear back. They say you will hear back from 6-8 weeks, at most 10 weeks. I interviewed at 6 other places after Vanderbilt and after each one, I told my friends and family (who asked) that Vanderbilt was still my favorite. Not hearing back in such a long time was crushing to me. The day I got accepted, I called in the morning to check on my status. I was told that they had something sent out in the mail and I should receive it shortly. At Vanderbilt, a letter in the mail with no phone call means waitlist. I had given up. Maybe if I had heard on October 18th (when the 1st acceptances went out at Vanderbilt) it would not have been this good of a feeling.

+1 I totally agree with this. interview day is so important to me in terms of how I really feel about a school. researching online and talking to people can only tell you so much...I'm too nervous to withdraw from any interviews because I may LOVE it at that school! who knows? Unless it was a huge expense to travel to an interview to a school that's already at the bottom of my list, I say try it out!

Congrats! I'm a neuroscience student at Vanderbilt, and you are very lucky (I know luck had nothing to do with it). Make the most of it! Vanderbilt is a wonderful school and place all around. I just might be joining you in a year if I am fortunate enough. We will find out next fall. Enjoy your last semester and congrats again!
