Hi
I was wondering if you guys know of anyone who has been accepted to med schools with a 6V on the mcat? The reason why I ask is that I took mcat last august and scored 6V 11B 12P. I have 3.8 GPA Biochem at UNC, 3.85 science GPA. I have done biochem research for 3 years, volunteered at hospitals in summer, an elementary school for a semester, EMT for a year, chem lab TA for 3 semesters. By the way, english is my second language. I am planning to take the august mcat and thinking whether to defer my application for a year until get a stronger (like 8) on verbal. I really doubt I will improve that much on verbal. So if you know of anyone who has been accepted with a 6V, can you please give me as much info about them as you can so I can compare myself with them and predict my chances.

Thanks
chintu

There is nothing wrong with a 6V. I got a 7 and English is my 1st language😱 I'm going to Baylor. I had interviews at a lot of top ten schools too. Don't despair. Apply now - as early as you can.

Yeah, I think you are fine. You def would get in a better school with a 10, but I'm not sure the 8 will help you to much.

I know someone who had a 6V 10PS 10BS and got in...needless to say there are a variety of factors they look at in each application.

A friend of a friend of a friend of mine had a 5 on verbal and got in. English is his second language. But I don't know which school though. So it's possible!

I retook the MCAT last August b/c I scored a measley 5 on verbal...I only improved by one point. I did relatively well on the BS & PS sections (11 and 9, respectively). I was able to get into my top choice school here in CO this year. Don't give up!! It seems your creds are solid otherwise... adcoms put more emphasis on the whole picture and not just one aspect. Good luck!

Yeah there is nothing wrong with a 6 on verbal. Im going to ECU Med this fall with a 7 verbal. And I know of another student who got in with a 6.

Hey Chintu,

You're like my identical twin - stat-wise, ESL-wise. I applied this year and didn't have great results because now I'm only on 3 waitlists with no acceptances. But you may have different luck. My mistake was aiming too high. I applied to mostly top 25 schools because I thought, with a 3.8 GPA, I could certainly get into one, especially my state school, which is UNC by the way. Well I was wrong! I was stupid and naive. I think my high GPA did get me some unexpected interviews - Duke and Pitt, (out-of-state) Loyola and Med Univ of SC. So my advice is apply to a BROAD range and save lots of room for safeties.

Good luck! Oh yeah, and I took the MCAT twice solely to pull up my verbal score. It went up by 2 points the second time.
