  1. Pre-Optometry
For those of you who are currently enrolled in Optometry school:

How long after your interview were you notified of your acceptance?

What mode of communication (phone, snail mail, email, etc) was used to notify you?

Where you given a deadline to accept or decline the seat at various schools?

I know everyone says apply as early as possible, but is there a big difference between applying on August 1st vs. September 1st? I'll be taking the OAT in August and would like to take some time to perfect my essays and make sure all of my letters are good to go.

THANKS

You should be perfectly fine applying in September. 🙂

SCO called me two or three weeks after my interview to let me know I was accepted (I'm pretty sure it was two weeks). I applied in August and interviewed in September. Hope this helps!

It varies for each school. For example: one school I interviewed at took 2 weeks while another school that had me in the last interview spot on Friday notified me 10:00 am Monday morning.

Email and/or Mail. It varies depending on the school. They will let you know.

Yeah you'll have to sign a paper and send it back to them before a certain deadline (sometimes with or without a deposit) to hold your seat. This can be refundable depending on the school.

I would say September 1 is early enough. Unless you have a really low GPA and OAT score, you should be fine with September. I applied late (late January/early February) and was accepted at all schools I applied to.

For most schools that is the case, but not all of them. For one school I was accepted to, there was an open deadline for accepting a seat. However, they accepted more people than seats and you had to make sure to accept your seat before they were all filled. But if you were accepted early, this was a nice advantage because you didn't have to unnecessarily spend money on a school you might not go to, and the seats didn't fill up until much later in the year.

Couple hours after the interview, I received a phone call from the the dean of admission.

Yes, I was given a deadline to accept the seat.
