Hey SDN! I was finally able to secure my first acceptance after three cycles and I cannot tell you how good it feels. However, Im having a hard time choosing if I want to remain on the other alternate lists of other schools or not.
Part of me just wants to run away with the one Ive got after trying for so long, but the other part of me wants to get greedy and play this out to the bitter end to see where the chips fall. I wont tell you which school Ive been accepted to as to not influence the opinions I hope to receive. I got sick of the all the repetitive versus threads and thought I could put a twist on mine so without further ado, I present
Acceptances and Alternate Lists as Girls I May or May Not Have Dated
MWU-AZ The familiar ex-girlfriend
I have my qualms about taking a spot at MWU-AZ just because Ive already spent a year with her (getting my masters). Im familiar with her favorite hang out spots (surrounding area), her friends (the people), her workplace (the campus), etc. Ive explored all there is to explore (if you know what I mean).
Now, I dont want to say we ended things on bad terms but there cant help but be a little a bit of resentment when you get rejected 4 different times in 3 cycles (I managed to reverse a pre-interview rejection in my second cycle to a post-interview rejection). Im sure I could eventually be happy here and settle down, but the romantic in me longs for the fairy tale story of love at first sight.
Western University of Health Sciences The moped
I remember two distinct things from my interview here.
#1 This curriculum is awesome! No wax ups? No lab work? Sign me up, please!
#2 Man, this campus is depressing. Whats with those creepy statues? Oh, its a former JC Penny? I guess that makes sense.
Essentially, in my head, Western became that quintessential ugly girl with a great personality. Awesome where it counts, but lets just say Im not dying to introduce her to my friends and family just yet.
USC The spoiled rich girl
My first impression was of course that of the spoiled rich girl. Shes kinda off in her own world (PBL anyone?) and will be super high maintenance (tuition and cost of living is already insane) always asking me to borrow money so she could go shopping at Gucci, LV, Coach seriously, you only have two arms, why do you need 20 purses?! *cough* Ahem, I digress.
On the bright side, she has all the name recognition you could want everyone knows about her (large alumni network) which you could easily parlay into a job or residency afterwards.
University of Southern Nevada/Roseman University of Health Sciences The stranger at the bar
Okay, first of all its really dark in this bar so I cant quite form an accurate first impression. She could very well end up being a spoiled rich girl without all the benefits (and it very well looks that way with the budget USN is about to approve).
However, from the brief conversations Ive had with her (the staff and faculty), I think I could be very happy. Everything shes saying sounds so exciting (systems-based curriculum, P/F grades, brand new clinic, no sim lab) but of course theres no confirmation of this, its all promises at this point (being an inaugural class and all).
So tell me, if given the choice... which girl would you choose? or for the ladies, what guy would you choose?
