I'm grateful to have multiple acceptances to OOS private schools. However, I am wondering what would make state schools completely ignore my application? I am a FL resident with LizzyM 69, which falls within range for all 6 of my state schools. All apps complete in July. I have had 7 II, all from "low-yield" private schools that get 10k+ apps, but have heard absolutely nothing from state schools. Did they blacklist me or is there something about state schools I don't know about?

Note: I have heard stories where applications that are too competitive do get ignored by state schools. I don't consider my application to be of that sort since my stats are not amazing, but I think I should note that I have received scholarships to some of the schools I've been accepted to.

App seasons are a funny thing aren't they? Not sure why you haven't received any love from your state schools. Perhaps the fit just isn't there, but you're definitely not "black listed". You're in a great spot though, be thankful for your scholarships and acceptances!

Out of my few II's, my state schools were the last to invite me. One of them I just received this week. I wouldn't lose hope.

Maybe even call to ask for a status update. When I called one of mine, they offered me an II right then on the phone.

Is calling and asking about the status of your application really kosher? I always thought that was frowned upon. I would definitely like to do this at my state school but don't want to ding my app

Who knows how this works? My only acceptance was to an OOS public school. I got rejected from my own state school (actually I got waitlisted and then they never bothered to contact me again).

I think it depends on the school honestly. Depending upon people's comments in the school-specific threads and potentially any adcoms/administrators from specific schools that are active in their school's thread, you can get a feel for how they do things. A couple of the schools that I've applied to directly mention they advise IS applicants to seek counseling/advice from an admissions counselor even if they aren't invited for an interview. On the other hand, some schools seem rather blunt about not wanting any contact/updates unless specifically requested. With that being said, I find it highly unlikely that simply calling a school and asking for some transparency about your status and chances would ultimately result in you going form the II pile to a rejection. Hell, if I knew of a school having that complete lack of willingness to at least give an applicant a rough idea of where they stand, I would be very hesitant about attending a school where that is the culture in the administration. That is just my opinion though and I must admit that I've been very surprised and impressed with some of the admissions staff members I've spoken with at schools I've applied to. Sadly, this probably isn't true at all of the institutions, though. Best of luck to you the rest of this cycle.

I actually went ahead and called up most of the schools I applied to to ask about when interviews end and the status of my app and they were all happy to talk with me. One school in particular even said that at this point the only interviews they will be sending out are to applicants that have kept in touch with the school and expressed a continued interest. So it definitely isn't going to hurt in most cases, and occasionally it might even help.

Good luck to you too.

I applied to all the FL schools as well and I haven't heard from any of them.
