Accepted Azusa Pacific DPT 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just saw your post and I freaked out. So I went to check my phone and I had just missed her call! Looks like it's just the two of us so far. Congrats!

To be honest my GPA wasn't very high, pre-req hitting 2.97 and 3.3 overall, and an average GRE strong in writing. I have been working as an Aide for a year and I have about 300-400 hours of experience. But I had a great interview with Dr.Shore and Dr.Wong.

Hey guys, mcinvrats on APU. I was wondering if the following 2013 APU students can post their stats? My number 1 schools APU 🙂.

Can you share your experience with the interview? What kind of questions did you get? Was it laid back? Any tips? I'm thinking of applying this summer.

Well first off it was 2 interviewers and just me. It was pretty laid back and all they want to do is get a feel for you. I was very nervous until the preview day presentation and meet & greet was over. Of all the questions you should be able to answer it's "Why you want to become a Physical Therapist." Everything else I'm pretty sure was different for everyone because asked me questions about why I didn't do so well with Chemistry because I did great in Anatomy and Physio. They also asked why I chose their school and what my hobbies were. I think it was a total of 5-6 questions they asked me. As cliche as it sounds just be yourself and know EXACTLY why you want to become a therapist.

@thekoukimonster - I interviewed after preview day

To those interested in the program.... I agree with @thekoukimonster comment

The interview - just be yourself. I know in my heart PT is for me so I could honestly answer how genuinely I wanted to be a part of a strong PT program like APU.... I personally was drawn to the program as well for my Christian faith - an aspect I hope to intertwine in my PT career. Preview day taught me a lot about the program and I really liked it even more so after those few hours. During preview day they basically said they interview whoever has the prerequisite stats for the program. Then, during the interview they have some basic questions. What was really great about the interview is that they care about the whole person - they give you a chance to explain any part of yourself or your application. Like, @thekoukimonster, I too had a flop of a grade, my was a in psychology and a biology class - yet I had great grades in physics, anatomy... and so they look at that and think what is that about? I got to explain how I had grown as a learner from my first year of college to my last year.

Hey guys! New to the board. Had to sign up so that I could post on this thread bc APU is my #1 choice for sure.
Congratulations to everyone that's gotten in already! I'm still finishing up my essay and a couple loose ends on my app. Hoping it submit it by the middle/end of Aug.

I had a couple of questions. What is "preview day", can anyone attend one, and if so, do you know if they have them in the summer? They don't have anything about it on their website and I have yet to call the school to talk to an admissions person.

Hi @dpthopefully - I attended the preview day in June. I think APU offers 2 preview days a year. I am not quite sure when the other preview day is....maybe November? Anyone can attend preview day, but you have to sign-up for it. You can contact Anel (she is involved in all the administrative work with perspective applicants). Her number is 626-815-5017 and her email is [email protected].

APU was also my first choice for PT school. But then I was unsure after interviewing at another school. I was glad I attended the preview day because it taught me a lot about the program and I knew I could see myself in the program. Here is the email I was sent with our agenda:

Azusa Pacific University invites you to attend our Doctor of Physical Therapy informational session to be held Friday, June 15th at 10:00 am in the Mary Hill Building, Room 130 on West Campus. (701 E. Foothill Blvd., Azusa, Ca 91702).

I didn't even notice this thread until now. I was accepted in mid June!! Yay classmates!

Hi everyone!

I interviewed with the APU program this past Tuesday. How long did it take for everyone to hear back from the APU faculty?

For those of you accepted into to the program I just created a Facebook page so we can all connect! Just search for Azusa Pacific University DPT Class of 2015

Congrats to everyone that was accepted! I sent in my app for the Azusa 2014 Spring semester last week and just had a question. How long after you sent in your applications did it take to hear from them regarding receipt of your app and also a decision. Thanks!

Considering applying for class of 2014 and lso wondering how long it takes before they respond.

They told me a week ago that they would start looking through applications in March.

I heard that they dont make final decisions until summer but I don't know when interviews start.

Hey guys!

I'm interested in applying to the spring 2014 class as well! When is the best time to send in my application? I'm afraid I may not be ready to submit until late summer... do you think this will hurt my chances?

i applied for the 2014 cycle and got an interview for april 5th! anyone else??
i know it's a christian university, but does anyone know how they are about non-christian applicants? i am religious, but just not christian

When did you send in your application for the 2014 cycle? Congrats on the interview!

It's fine. They do not hold it against you.

Do they have any kind of religious studies or worships that you have to be a part of???

hi all, I was also looking to apply to Azusa PT program for 2014, and noticed that you can apply now or wait until the next PTCAS cycle. Just wondering if there would be any benefit to apply now or wait until the next round. I have a 3.5 GPA and got 147 for quant, 146 vocab, and 3.5 on writing for GRE. Not sure if I should retake the GRE or just send in my application now. Would appreciate any advice.

Know that if you apply now you can't reapply with them in the next cycle (at least that is what they told me). Did you already fill out the ptcas? Did you get your observation hours in? Essay? If not, I would just apply in the next cycle. You don't want to rush anything. Make sure your application is strong. I talked Anna from APU and she highly recommends students to apply with 150/150/4.0 for the GRE.

what were the stats for your application? GPA, GREs, etc?

my stats aren't too great..
cGPA: 3.3
prereqGPA: 3.1
Hours: ~400, both inpatient and outpatient
GRE: verbal 150, quantitative 162, writing 4.0

but i got a call today that i got accepted in class of 2014!!! 🙂

Congrats! Did you get a call or email for an interview? I just sent my application out today, so I probably won't hear a response back for awhile.

PTCAS mailed my materials in mid march, but when I emailed Azusa they said they had not received it. AAAAHHH!!!! 😱so made some calls today was told they DO have it. Anyone else have this situation?

Thanks! Will do.

Does anyone have info on how religion is a part of the program, if at all? I have no issues with Christianity (I'm catholic) but I would honestly prefer if it was completely separate. Thanks!

when i went to preview day i asked a couple of students about how religion is integrated in the program and they said it isnt really a big part, like there are no specific classes on religion or anything, but rather the professors might just mention a few things in class or do a prayer before class starts, something like that..so you dont really have to do any christian-related practices or anything
i myself am not christian but i just got accepted and am planning to go there! 🙂
