I have to say, I thought being accepted to dental school I would be pretty much set but I get a letter almost every week with something new to do: background checks, financial aid, etc. Will it never end!

Anyone else experiencing this?

that is an ice cold statement...

I know that med schools really look down on people who have gotten misdemeanors or MIPs and such, do people with these get in? I'm guessing they're less favored? a friend of mine is applying to law school with an MIP so it thought it'd be kinda similar to dental school.

I'm sorry for those who have yet to be accepted. I did not mean to sound insensitive. I am just wondering if anyone else is suprised by the amount of work that goes into getting into school after the admissions process. I'm not complaining, just no one ever told me. Wondered if anyone else was feeling bombarded, too. I thought this was the relax and wait period.

When has filling out forms all of a sudden become such a troublesome and tasking chore??

unbelievable....

I didn't know any dental schools actually did a background check. Most of them probably have the box where they ask you to check whether or not you've been convicted of a crime, but I doubt they have the infrastructure to check up on all applicants. Can anyone else verify that dental schools do background checks?

Having to worry about vauge post-acceptance requirement related to maintaining a satisfactory gpa are extremely worrying. What the hell does "satisfactory" mean??? Only the dreaded phone call, which involves identifying yourself to scruitiny, will calm your fears.

U do know that when u get ur ipod and watever u get free all of your information gets sent to other companies and other companies send it to other companies all having ur phone number your address all over the place in addiction your going to get junk UP da A$$. Cause sure u can get the cheap deals and cancle it but they know what their doing. Theres more to it.

They better not have a background check or I'm screwed! OK not really. My wild and rebellious days consisted of throwing flashing baracades into the reservoir and watching them blink underwater and sneaking into the golf course at night and running around and swimming in the ponds. And it's not on my record.

I actually haven't heard a whole lot from my school. I got my finaid info done (late) a couple months ago and was told they would get back with me in June. Other than that I haven't heard anything.

Penn requires a background check to make sure you are not a sex offender, or have a criminal record. They say this is required to treat children in Pennsylvania.

yep, lots of papers. i think it's the norm though. 😀

I actually like filling out all the papers and apartment searching and all that, it's kind of fun preparing and everything.

🙂 Want to do all my stuff for me? Tomorrow I have a physical 😱 and I've been searching for a nice apartment in Boston that allows dogs for two months now. Ideal move-in would be August 15 (or August 1). Let me know what you find! 😉

I like the paperwork too! It gets me more excited about starting. And looking for an apartment is so much fun - I've actually been checking out Craigslist in SF for the past year!!!

I am getting a little tired of the extensive physical though, I have already been to the Doctor's 4 times, and I have another appt Thurs. We have to get two TB skin tests a couple weeks apart from one another, which each require 2 separate visits.

Anyways - gonna go look on Craigslist and wait for more paperwork...

Jessica

If it is too much work guys, then don't fill out all of the paperwork, skip your physicals, etc. Then at least some spots would open up for the rest of us. I would give anything to have to jump through those hoops right now that are causing such a pain in your neck. You think there are hoops now, wait until school actually starts. And maybe some of us will get lucky...if there are some criminals out there that are caught during their background check, that will surely open up some spots.

ANYTHING?!! 😱

I totally hear you about the physical, I had to go to the doctor 4 times and call them every couple of days for 2 weeks. first they forgot to chart giving me the TB test, so when i went in to get it checked they were like, I don't see anything on here about administering you a tb test. secondly after waiting 2 weeks for my test results I called and found out the health dept lost my blood sample, so i had to go back and get it re-drawn. at least its all taken care of and sent in to the school now. 🙄
