Sorry if someone already started this, but I couldn't find one, so I am starting one.

For people in the application process right now, could you if you have gotten in anywhere please post stats (maybe in following format so its easier to scan everything):

name of school you got into (or mulitple schools): State residency: how many schools applied to: how many interviews.
Total GPA: Science GPA: MCAT (x,x,x,x):

so for example (these are not mine as I have not applied yet):

USC: CA: 25: 6
4.0: 4.0: 13-15,15,15

thanks

I guess I'll start.

Well, I applied to far less schools than most of you, but here it goes... This is my second year applying, so I will include both years combines, this year has been much more promising than last🙂

Attending: UCSF

Note: I posted this originally in March, but it is now August, 2002 and I have updated my application results. The two acceptances off waitlists, along with the UCSF acceptance, were recieved within one week. I am not the type of person who stays on waitlists just to see if I could get in. I got the UCSF acceptance, went on vacation for a week, and returned to two acceptances off waitlists. Just clarifying that so noone thinks I am a tool 😀

•Hey souljah
ARen't you getting a graduate degree in something????? Why?•••••Trout- Yeah, I'm getting a Master's in Human Nutrition. I'm really interested in the relationship between diet and lifestyle and diseases such as cvd and type 2 diabetes. I plan on going into an area of medicine that focuses in these areas and I wanted to get a solid foundation in nutritional biochem, clinical nutrition, etc..I did my undergrad in Nutritional Tox, but wanted to do graduate work that focused on more of the clinical and behavioral aspects of nutritionally related chronic illnesses.

I also felt it would be nice to live in NYC for a year (my family is close by in jerz).

Being a grad student has helped in the interview process, but not all that much. I didn't do it for that reason, but I can't deny that it enhances/betters my application.

Hope that answers your question.

I'll contribute too...

man, kafka, those are impressive numbers and acceptances. If anything, your post shows how random this process is. You got into a top ten school (UMich) as an out-of-state resident--a feat almost as difficult as getting into UCSF or Harvard. Major congrats and props to you. Yet URochester, Vandy waitlisted you? Well who cares about those schools anyway 🙂

My point is, this process is like throwing dice. 7-11 Baby!

just thought this was an interesting thread. update us on where u're going if u posted ur stats earlier.

I agree. you read about some folks with good stats making it, then just when you think you've "figured" out what a safety net is for GPA/MCAT score to get in, the next post will have some 4.0/40 MCAT person who got dinged all over the place. 🙁

Who are you crazy people with 3.99999 and 98728754 on the MCAT's? Jeez, you scare me. 🙂

and on top fo that they are all from like UCLA or STandford..........
and still have that gpa.........amazing

nero

Personally I'd like to see some people with subpar GPAs and higher MCATs with acceptances in this thread...are there any? Kinda feel down about my chances.🙁

hey guys

although this information may be helpful in giving you a ballpark estimate of your chances, the entire process is very unpredictable... we all have heard of people with high numbers who get rejected and those with incredibly low numbers who make it into some amazing schools. try not to psych yourselves out too much.

we have done our best, we have done what we can, and our previous stats cannot be changed. if it doesn't work out this time, there's always another year and another chance, and so on and so forth.

don't give up! and remember, that in the end, the only true competition we have is with ourselves.

good point!!! I'm also guessing that given the anonymity on the board, there may be a minority of people out there who...shall we say...beef up their stats. I read on an older post that statistically, the number of people with sky high stats on this board was a real anomaly. who knows though....maybe the cream of the crop get their fill at SDN!!! 🙂

it's all good, we're all still very proud of our fellow SDNers who get into medical school, regardless of their stats or schools.

since this board is anonymous, what would one have to gain by "beefing" up ones stats? ridiculous

anyway, here's my stats and i got into a med school already.

High school gpa weighted: 4.75 i believe
unweighted: 4.0
SAT score: 1550, math 800, verb well u can fig it out
SATII : math: 800, chem 800, bio 800, writing 770, us history 800
lots of high school research, publication, volunteer work, athletics and leadership and awards

GO BAC/MD ! thank u for making my life less stressful right now

yeah since i'm anonymous and have nothing to gain, here are my stats:

high school gpa: who gives a f*ck
sat: 1600
sat II: 800 wr, 800 m, 800 bio, 800 chem (just for the hell of it)
college gpa: 4.00
mcat: 43-45T
awards: too many to list
penis: huge
