Hi everyone! I have been accepted at a DO school early in the cycle. I interviewed at an MD school ~6 weeks ago but haven’t heard back. They said it’s possible I may not hear back until February/March. My problem is that the deadline for the non-refundable deposit at the DO school is approaching soon (December 14th). Should I send a letter of interest at the MD school where I interviewed?

I have 3 other MD interviews coming up but they’re all past December 14th. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Think of the deposit as an insurance policy.

A pre-interview LOI has no potentially positive effect
I already interviewed at the MD school. I fit their mission and stats but the results could take some time.

Mehhhh I'm just a student/interviewer but this is one of those situations where I think it MIGHT be reasonable to send an email if they have a rolling admissions policy. Not an LOI because you still have 3 interviews coming up. But more along the lines of: hey I have this giant nonrefundable deposit due at a DO school on X date, I'm not going to do it if I get an acceptance here, so I would love it if it's at all possible to review my application earlier so that I receive a decision before that date. It's not so much about the outcome as it is about the timeline, similar to an in the area email pre-interview. But I'll defer to the actual adcoms who deal with these types of emails regularly.

Sounds entitled and impatient. This doesn’t make them special. They can wait like the rest of us, lol.

True if you don’t know the whole story. I was homeless part of my life. I qualified FAP, I’m on food stamp, and have 3 mouths to feed. The deposit costs as much as a whole month’s rent.

Maybe you’re right; maybe I’m entitled and impatient.

Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m wrong. It’s all about perception and it may not come off the way you hope it will. You also aren’t the only applicant in a financial bind. If you decide to ask for a rush decision I would include all of that in your letter. They likely already know that if it was mentioned in your app or interview, but maybe repeating it will help.

I'm trying to say this in the nicest possible way, but you know what also you are? Not having any accepts to and MD school.

Having an accept at a DO school means in the MD world you have no Leverage.

Don’t do it. It may annoy the adcoms.
Also, you don’t have any leverage having an acceptance to a DO school.

Pay the deposit. Consider it insurance of your acceptance... it could possibly be your only one!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I really appreciate it. I went ahead and sent a letter of interest last night. I told them about my situation and what I liked about the school and specifics about my interview.

This morning at 8am, I received an email back saying they will add it to my file. Ten minutes ago, the dean called me and I was ACCEPTED!! Such a relief! I will be cancelling my other interviews since this is my top choice and at a T20.

Congratulations!!! I'm so excited for you. Best of luck with med school and I hope you can find some time to do fun stuff until you start :claps::claps::claps:
Thank you so much! You’ve been so helpful. I’m so glad I listened to your advice! I figured that if they weren’t planning on accepting me, I’d know right away and I can put a little extra overtime for rent and deposit. Now I can rest!

Now go read this:
And pleas e don't confuse cause and effect here. The accept might have been 100% coincidental.

Wasn’t there a comment here of someone calling out SDN? Was it deleted lmao

Whether or not folks consider this to have been a risky decision, I applaud you trusting your instincts and doing what you felt was the right thing. Congratulations!
