Accepted to Georgetown, should I interview at OSU?

Hi, I know this is a very subjective question but I would appreciate your insights and opinions!

I got accepted at Gtown which is very close to home, and I would love to go here unless I get accepted at a "better" school on the East coast within a 5-hour radius from D.C.

Yesterday I got an interview invite from OSU, which is a 7-hr drive from home, and plane tickets are $500 round-trip. Ranking-wise OSU is currently 14 places above Gtown, but I don't know if that's enough of a benefit to spend so much money and potentially go far away from my family. Perhaps a better residency placement if I went to OSU? I'm not sure.

If you were me, would you dish out $500 for plane tickets to interview at OSU when you've been accepted to a school near home? Thanks!

Going to Georgetown over OSU won't close (or open) any doors for you. They're ranked similarly enough that any historical differences in their match lists will likely be regional.

No personal experience but, some on SDN say that after 1 year at OSU you can apply for In-State tuition which can cut $25K-$30K off of your tuition --- that times 3 (years) would be a substantial saving for a school ranked a little higher. Add to that the difference in cost to live in Columbus versus DC and I'd estimate it would cost you $100K more for a Georgetown Medical Degree. If you are interested in research - OSU might have more opportunity. The choice depends on how necessary the money is to you.

(Don't quote me on the In-State tuition opportunity for OSU because I am only repeating what others have said. Better check it out for yourself to make sure of it)

Reputation wise they are pretty similar. If staying close to your family is important and you would be happy at Georgetown, I would go with that

Thinking the OP is referring to Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is reflective of jqueb29's lack of geographical knowledge and more broadly an indictment of your typical American public school education

I interviewed (and was waitlisted) at both schools and have a couple friends at OSU. In my limited experience, the personality of the students is really different. Gtown seemed a little uppity to me compared to OSU and I didn't feel like I'd fit in. To be fair, I grew up in a farming town in the Midwest so my perception is probably a bit skewed on that front. OSU also has some cool bells and whistles with the advanced competencies in the curriculum. Obviously there's cost as well. Bottom line, if you can spare the money and could see yourself leaving home if you fell in love with OSU, it might be worth just checking it out.

PS: Make sure on your interview day you call it THE Ohio State University or risk being corrected by literally everyone who works/goes there.🙄
