Got accepted to med school, but I'm at risk for a D in a class (not a prereq for med school acceptance) because of personal bad decisions. If I continue, I have a good chance of pulling a C or higher, but there's always a risk of my grade slipping into the C-/D range. If I withdraw from the class now, I have to pay for a whole quarter of college I wasn't planning on attending. Could med schools pull their acceptance if I get a D in a class, then re-take and earn a higher grade the second time?

Have you spoken to the professor yet?

Yes, speak to your professor, constantly show up to their office hours, and do everything you can to pass.

I really doubt a medical school will pull your acceptance if you get a D. If you fail (D is not considered failing in some schools) and end up NOT getting your diploma/degree... thats a completely different issue IIRC.

Can they pull an acceptance for getting a D? Definitely. Your acceptance is conditional which is extremely important to understand. Medical schools are assuming you will have your background check without any major issues and pass your classes with at the very least bare minimum which I'm going to assume is a C. You need to talk to your professor and possibly withdraw from this class. You might have to also speak to the Dean of the medical school.

If its not going to stop you from completing a premed requirement needed for matriculation, you'll be okay 🙂. I too slacked off after my acceptances and ended up with a D, i immediately called my medical school and asked them what would happen if i got D and they said its no biggie. By this point you've proved that you're capable.

What would you say to the Dean of Admissions, "I slacked off once I got accepted to medical school, but please forgive me for my poor decision and ended up with a 'D', and I am confident that I still have the academic ability to succeed in your medical school"? Would that work at all???

Do everything you can to get the C. If you add a C to your transcript, the med school will probably not bat an eye.

A D, though, might make them think twice (although I wouldn't expect it...) So do whatever you can to pass. Talk to the teacher. Study your but off.

If the teacher is a real jerk, contact the med school directly and ask their opinion. Make sure you get it in writing (ie. via email).

Good luck!

You'll be fine. As long as you pass the class, it won't matter.

A ton of my friends received Cs and Ds of the spring prior to matricuation (after they had been accepted).

I guess my question is, if I do poorly in the class and then re-take and get a good grade the second time, is that still considered "bad"?

I guess what some might say is, why would you retake if the school has already accepted you and will not rescind their acceptance unless you fail.

You would be better off calling that particular school and asking them what they have done in the past.

Definitely talk to the professor. I had a friend who was on track to get a D post vet school acceptance. They talked to the professor, who was a bit mean, but eventually let them do some sort of extra assignment to get a C-. It won't hurt to ask.

Unbelievable man. I hope everyone got the same opportunity to do this assignment.
