I am taking the mcat in August and I am just wondering if those who took the august mcat would list the schools that you were accepted to?

Please post the school that you were accepted?

Don't worry too much about the August MCAT. As long as you have your stuff together (letters of rec, secondaries), it's not too bad.

That has got to be the most inane piece of advice I have ever heard anyone give. Gosh - if you don't have anything valuable to add, just keep your mouth shut, but don't lead people down the wrong path.

I second that. Don't stress too much over this and have everything else in even without your MCAT. Good luck!

i believe Alexander was saying how dont worry about taking the mcat in august - as long as you get all ur stuff in, august wont hurt you in the application process

In that regard, he wasnt not leading anyone down the wrong path. I think you have made a hasty remark

Hi, I'm an august MCAT taker. I took it in April, but I know I will need to retake it again.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I was wondering....when people say do everything early, do they mean get everything in and sent to aamc by mid-July? When is a good time to get all the recommendations in by? My school's deadline to write us a composite letter is mid-august, but I was thinking earlier perhaps? Thanks!

You obviously don't know Alexander99.......

And in any case he was stating the obvious - trying to pass it off as his own, in that pompous way of his.

i took the aug mcats and applied that same yr (fall 2003). i think i submitted my amcas in july and it was verified and completed in august. i prob got secondaries around sept-dec. i know i felt at a disadvantage because alot of people i knew who had taken the april mcats had already received interview invites before i had even gotten my secondaries.

but.....things worked out in the end. i got my interview invites (east virginia, loma linda, virginia commonwealth, dartmouth). so even though i took the mcats in august, i still got accepted to two schools.

i'm waitlisted at dartmouth, accepted to loma linda and virginia commonwealth. so, my advice is to just do your best and don't lose hope!!! feel free to pm if you have any other questions.

Have your transcripts sent as soon after you fill out your AMCAS as you can. As for LOR's: I just had them sent to a given school right after I completed their secondary.

Second time aug mcater. Applied to 11 schools, interviewed at 7.
Accepted: SLU, drexel
Waitlisted: UNC, ECU, Wake, Pitt

??? class of 2008

If you submit the AMCAS application when it first becomes available (or soon thereafter), you will receive most of the secondaries over the summer. You should submit all of your secondaries and recommendations over the summer and early fall so that your application is complete once your scores arrive. It is nerve-wracking to pay so much money for secondary applications without knowing your MCAT score, but this is definitely the way to go if you want to be interview mid-cycle.

This is what I did last year. I was accepted at five schools, waitlisted at three, and withdrew post-interview from several once I had been accepted at one of my top choice schools. Trust me: if you do well enough on the test and your overall application is strong, taking the August MCAT will NOT hold you back.

First: focus on doing well on the August MCAT. Second: Get your AMCAS application in early (NOW, if possible), send in secondaries and recs within a couple weeks of receiving them (but do not get too distracted from studying for the MCAT over the summer - that is your #1 priority).

Thanks man. Thats the stuff I am looking for. HA

Taking the MCAT in August will put you a little behind at some schools but I personally had no choice last year since I just wasn't ready to take it in April. Like everyone here has been saying, get your AMCAS done ASAP. Then, when you get your secondaries, dont put them off. If you need a composite rec letter from you school, talk to the pre med advisor and see when they could have one ready for you. At my school the pre med committee needed to have an MCAT score before writing a composite rec letter so I had to wait until October when my score came out for my composite letter. If your school has a similar system, speaking to your pre med advisor now may help put you at the front of the line come October when everyone who took the August MCAT needs a letter.

Anyone taking the August MCAT still has a solid shot for acceptance, its just that you have to be a little more diligent about getting the applications done quickly.

Here's what happened to me:

Waitlisted: University of Miami, Mount Sinai
Accepted: NJMS, NYMC, Tufts
Still waiting for a decision from: Albert Einstein

Tufts is particularly good to those who take the August MCAT because they interview groups in the fall, winter, and spring. They space out their spots evenly so that the same number of spots are availible in the fall for fall applicants and in the spring for spring applicants. You have just as much chance of being accepted with a March interview as someone with a November interview, this helps prevent the class from filling up on you before you even had a chance to interview.

Good luck guys, dont lose hope! You'll get through this!

I took the August mcat, got amcas in around august, had a problem with transcripts and got secondaries done around nov-dec. Didn't get my first interview until mid feb.

I was pretty nervous as some schools filled up early (loyola), but it worked out. I got accepted to Pritzker, Jefferson, Tulane and Wake forest, waitlisted at OSU and Case.

Good luck with the august MCAT. Don't worry, you can still get in, but get stuff in by June if you can.

Pritzker class of 2008

I should add, the only school I know of that you might not want to apply to with an August MCAT is Vanderbilt. I found out that they interview really early and fill most of their entering class by the time the August scores are released. They're the only school that seemed to give me an automatic rejection and I'm pretty sure my August MCAT had a lot to do with it.

BOOYA, Gbear, that's the stuff!!! Thanks. So there is hope!

Interviewed Early (before december): U pitt, NJMS, NYU
Interviewed Late (after december): NU, MSSM (this one was very late-dean said everyone interviewing with me was on WL or reject).

Accepted: NYU, NJMS
WL: U pitt, NU, MSSM

A real drawback to August MCAT is that you don't know where to apply. Once you know your MCAT, you can narrow down your application choices. Had I known that I got 36, I wouldn't have applied to 18 schools and would have saved a LOT of money.
Make sure to apply early, get your transcripts in early from ALL schools, and get those reference letters rolling about now. Don't wait. Once the scores are in, your app better be ready.
Anyhow:
9 pre-interview rejections mostly from IVY leauges.
3 acceptances: BU, Pitt, Tufts.
3 Waitlists: UMass, Dartmouth, NYU
3 got interviews but withdrew: Jefferson, Drexel, UConn.

Good luck to all.

I was sick the first time I took the April MCAT and did horribly (I shouldn't have taken it that day but that's in the past). August MCAT score was much better....

Accepted: USF
Waitlisted: SLU
