OK, this is basically the "good applicants, post your stats" thread.

your "excuse" for posting your awesome stats, people, is if you've been accepted somewhere. it's not just for the sake of impressing everyone, which you're doing!! 😀

anyway, it's really, really fun to look at people's numbers, especially when they're good, so i'm all for this thread. i just wanted to voice that complaint because i believe it should be coming down the line from someone else pretty soon.

let's only post when we're accepted folks. you can do your showing off AFTER your acceptance. 😛

Wow that is impressive, you would turn down ucsf for an east coast private school???

I think we should rename this site " The Student Gunner Network." Some of these stats are obscene.

Yeah, but not everyone with high stats is a gunner. Conversely, not every gunner has high stats.--Trek

Hey Bomback,

Congratulations on your UCSD acceptance. May be I'll see you there this fall. Did UCLA grant you an interview? They rejected me post-secondary. If my stats are good enough for a UCSD acceptance I should at least get a UCLA interview !! I don't get it.

Undergrad: Various (mostly community college), but graduating from Arizona
Accepted: Penn St.

Science GPA: 3.98
MCAT 11V, 13P, 13B, P
Interviewing at Wisconsin and Iowa soon.

For anyone with funky stats, I failed 6 classes when I was younger (luckily none of them were science classes). Just be able to explain your problems; I felt like when I was able to explain the discepancy between my MCAT and cum, it was a deal maker.

gonna throw this thread off a bit since I am currently a med student and was accepted for the class of 2005.

Katie, you already have received a rejection from Emory? I didn't know they were sending out rejections yet 😕 I've yet to hear anything from them since the email saying my app was complete.

nevermind...I didn't read the first part of your post, Katie, sorry.

A friend at UF with ~37/3.9 Biochem major is truly humble and has aspirations for his family and faith that go well beyond the scope of medicine. defintely NOT a gunner. Been accepted to UF, cornell, waitlist @ Hopkins, interviews at Duke, nortwestern among others I dont remember.

A guy that used to live in my dorm had a 31/3.8 and applied to only 5 schools (UF, USF, Hopkins, Duke, Emory) because he thought "we would surely be shoe-ins for med school." The guy decided last year after watching a special on TLC about the income and other perks of being a surgeon to continue with his chem engineering and go to med school. No significant EC's whatsoever, including volunteer work. No interviews.

so it's more than #'s kids!

..I don't see how this post will help..but here's my stats...

GPA 3.7
Sci 3.6
Non 3.97
MCAT 10B 11V 12P
Undergrad...UCLA

HUGE list of EC's
Accepted: Tulane
Notable Interviews: All UC's, Yale, Penn, Cornell, CWRU, UPitt, NWestern, Emory, Einstein and some lower tier schools.

It's the extras that got me the interviews...

Kidding, but seriously,
Jack•••••Whoops! you're right. I always thought it was "pour over", as in my eyes flowing over the material; but you're correct--proper usage is "pore over" You learn something every day I guess. But geez, you didn't have to be such a poop-head about it!

•••••Exactly how does that work? I'm hoping that Mr. Grammar himself will shed some light on the issue for me. 🙄

Undergrad: California State U., San Bernardino (where??? I always thought CSUSB was in Santa Barbara??? 😕 )

CUM.: 3.96
BCPM: 3.98
AO: 3.95
MCAT: 37Q (11,12,Q,14)
Accepted: UCSF
Lots of clinical ECs and volunteer work,
research... what is that?? (I have done a teeny bit, but nothing too significant)

•••quote:•••Originally posted by UCLA2000:
•Stats are useless without knowing volunteer work and other extras. Shoot for at least a 30 MCAT and 3.5 gpa. That's the average for accepted students.•••••I agree, as long as your numbers are in this range, you should be ok! Focus on ECs and doing things to develop yourself, enjoy life... don't be too focused on having perfect numbers. It will make you crazy, and that won't get you into med school

Math and physics undergrad at a major Canadian university.

Please bear in mind that I've interviewed at some prestigious schools but have been rejected at a lot of lower ranked schools--consistent with the experiences of other SDNers here. Proof that this process is completely arbitrary.•••••Hey, which university did you go to? I'm third year at McMaster, and I was accepted at Wash U. When I was there for interveiw, most people thought it was a small school somewhere in the States (I guess they reasoned that's how come they've never heard of it) 😀
And they didn't seem to understand the concept of 3 year BSc programs.

To contribute to the thread:
GPA: 3.84
MCAT: 9VR, 12PS, 14BS, M (WS)

Undergrad: College
Major: Life

Other GPA: 3 something
MCAT: hmmm... Q = mcAT interesting

Accepted: the westside
Waiting for: the East Coast

ECs: stuff that was fun
Research: fun stuff

Hey, this is my first smiley guy: 😎

Yeah, that one kind of looks like me. Except he's probably a lot cooler than me.
