Although it is doubtful a school wouldn't fill every spot offered, but does anyone know if a school has rejected someone and then accepted them the same year because the class size didn't fill? I swear I read something like this happening to someone here on SDN... Or I am just crazy lol

I've heard of at least one year a school went through their entire wait list, but in that case I believe they ended up with a short-seated class, rather than calling back people that got rejected.

I suspect this is a perfect question for TT. 🙂

LVT2DVM is a perfect example. 🙂 Her story was amazing - she was on her seventh try, and was called after being rejected and offered a contract spot to UGA.

She's c/o 2013 there.

I am totally amazed that this actually happens.
This just adds to the acid in my tummy for being on two waitlists...

UF did this one year, but it was a special circumstance. Someone accepted a position but then just a week before school started they decided not to go. UF went to a tech in thier hospital that applied and was rejected and asked her if she wanted to be in the class! Isn't that amazing! That would be such an amazing thing to have happen!

When I interviewed at K-State last year they told us that one year they didn't fill the class until either the week before orientation or during orientation. I don't remember which one.

If this was quite some time ago, I think I know the vet that this happened to. She was one of my LoR writers and is amazing. (In her case I don't remember if she was rejected or waitlisted but the rest of the story is the same - she told me that she didn't know they were supposed to dress nicely on the first day and went in jeans and such and felt like an idiot!)

In my class (U of MN '10) we had 6 or 7 students who were initially rejected, then called over the summer to do phone interviews and were accepted 🙂

That's interesting, they must have had a lot of people decline/drop out to dip all the way into rejections that hadn't even gotten to the interview stage.

It's weird when it happens. And it hasn't for the last two cycles... and the opposite nearly happened for Kansas last year, so I dunno. Nothing to count on, of course... nice to think it could happen, but keep planning for the next cycle or whatever you have lined up just the same.

Its so perplexing to me that schools would have a hard time filling a class that it would take them to the day of orientation to do it.
