I received my first acceptance package today, and am a little unclear as to the "rules" of accepting offers. It was my understanding that we are allowed to accept as many offers as we want until May 15th. I would only want to hold multiple offers for the purposes of comparing financial aid awards, which probably won't be available until March or April, as I have heard.

The reason I'm a little confused is that in the package I received, one of the acknowledgments, according to AAMC, is that "it is the responsibility of the student to hold no more than one acceptance at a given time", with no mention of the May 15th date. Will schools be able to see how many schools we have accepted?

And... do we really have to decide this quickly?! Since the date we have to submit the deposit is rapidly approaching for most of my schools, I'm getting a little stressed! Also, are the deposits refundable (if we withdraw before May 15)?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure as I am not applying this upcoming year; however, I was under the impression you can HOLD multiple acceptances until May 15th. I REALLY doubt you can accept multiple offers, b/c once you accept, you probably have to withdraw from other offers/waitlists and let the medical schools know. Therefore if I were you I would call about the technicality, but I still think you can hold/collect as many offers as you can, and then have to pick ONE to go to by May 15th. Hope that helps

Hold as many spots as you want. The deposits are refundable until May 15.

Yes, you have to submit the deposit by the deadline. You can hold as many acceptances as you want until May 15th. As long as you withdraw by that date, your deposits are refundable. The "given date" is May 15th.

You can accept as many offers as you have deposit money. It is school-dependent as to whether your deposit will be returned if you withdraw. That May 15th date is the date where you can't hold multiple acceptances. You can hold one acceptance + waitlists but not more than one (the schools that accepted you will be notified if you have multiple acceptances after May 15.

Agreed. Many people hold multiple offers through the Spring as they await financial award packages from the schools. So if you're holding acceptances for good reasons like that, don't feel too bad about it 😎!

Everyone here is right with the exception of the statements that "all deposits are refundable until May 15th." That depends on the school. Your paperwork should tell you if it is refundable or not.
