I work in a research lab, and about a month ago we had our first paper published that actually has my name in it. Obviously I wasnt able to put this in my initial VMCAS or supplemental applications since it just happened. Anyway, the PI of my lab said I should send a copy of the journal article along with a brief letter to the schools that I am still waiting to hear from, and basically I am unsure if this is a good idea. Does this come off as pushy, or is it good to let them know of more recent accomplishments? I think I may just call the admissions of the few schools left and see what their thoughts are, but I wanted to see what you all think as well. Thanks!

100% sure that once you are 'ranked' with the schools, they won't change it. If you have an interview, however, mention it if at all possible.

I've never had experience in this before so this is totally coming from my own UG perspective, but I would really think that they would love that. Had you mentioned that you were doing research on your VMCAS? That way it wouldn't be just out of the blue, but either way I think it would make a strong case for an improved application!

I feel like at this point it may be a little late in the game, but I don't think it would hurt. I am sure the admissions people deal with way more "pushy" people than that.

I would do it. What can it hurt?!

I'm with BnM. It costs you some postage and the time it takes to print a couple short, politely worded letters.

I think the risk of them perceiving it as 'pushy' is virtually zero. The odds of them giving it any value don't strike me as terribly high, but it's possible it will help, even if it isn't much more than "geez, this person is serious about getting in."

I agree with sending it in. No reason not to. and while it may not have much of an impact on straight admissions at this stage, if you are slated for a waitlist (some of which are unranked) it might alter how your app is considered.
