What would one do in a situation like that?I bet there will be at least one poor bastard that will match advanced spot but not prelim year. Pretty sure I know who it is too.
WeepWhat would one do in a situation like that?
Scramble for a prelim. They must secure a spot before July or they are SOL🙁What would one do in a situation like that?
Wow. That would be absolutely horrible. Seems like a poor way to do things?Scramble for a prelim. They must secure a spot before July or they are SOL🙁
They'll go into family medicineWow. That would be absolutely horrible. Seems like a poor way to do things?
Fair enough. Well, good luck everyone!!!They'll go into family medicine
It's easy enough to SOAP into a prelim if you're competitive enough for an advanced programThey'll go into family medicine

I'm just messing with someone that I know is reading this thread ;-)It's easy enough to SOAP into a prelim if you're competitive enough for an advanced program
By the way, have you applied for the match this year?Weep
They won't accept a TYThis works well in every specialty that requires pgy1 except for neurology. Unlike radiology/Derm/anesthesia/etc..., you can only do preliminary medicine for neurology. Therefore, you can’t rely on SOAP since prelim medicine, unlike prelim surgery, dont have too many unfilled position for scramble.
My senior resident was a FM guy who didn't even bother to apply to AOA OR ACGME - just sent in a token application and scrambled into whatever he can find. Guess it worked out - he's a total bro tooThats a ballsy move no prelim interviews at all ... hmm i wanna see how this turns out
They do, but they require 8 months of inpatient IM. The vast majority of TY's don't meet this criteria. They won't accept a TY
That's crazy... I was told that preliminary medicine right now is as competitive as getting into a mid tier university IM program... You might find a low stat applicant who got matched into advanced neuro but have a hard time getting a preliminary medicine spot... What will happen to such applicant? Isn't the program obligated to find you a spot? They do, but they require 8 months of inpatient IM. The vast majority of TY's don't meet this criteria.
I’d say it’s even more competitive. That's crazy... I was told that preliminary medicine right now is as competitive as getting into a mid tier university IM program... You spelled PM&R wrong.Unlike radiology/Derm/anesthesia/etc.,
The answer is to just match categorical. That's crazy... I was told that preliminary medicine right now is as competitive as getting into a mid tier university IM program... Don't worry, in such a scenario, the vox populi would suddenly have the revelation that MGH is really just a mid-tier university program and that it's really not all that impressive.I hope someone will match ortho at MGH just so I can stop hearing the endless and pointless arguments of how going to a DO school ruins someone’s career.
Jk, the argument never ends.
Lol.. PGY-0 IMI am a PGY-0 neurology resident now!!!
That's a strange way of saying OMS-4.I am a PGY-0 neurology resident now!!!
Usually you are funny. Not this time though. Try again. That's a strange way of saying OMS-4.
I find it interesting that, proportionally speaking, some of these "uncompetitive specialties" had less unfilled spots than some ultra competitive specialties. Example: PMR vs Derm.I just went out with a classmate who matched into EM and whose bf did not match... and she was saying that the SOAP is brutal this year. There are not many unfilled spots even at the least competitive specialties...
People should always have a plan B in this process... I wonder how many unfilled spots are there in each specialty.I find it interesting that, proportionally speaking, some of these "uncompetitive specialties" had less unfilled spots than some ultra competitive specialties. Example: PMR vs Derm.
You have access to this info.People should always have a plan B in this process... I wonder how many unfilled spots are there in each specialty.

Why does gen surgery have so many unfilled positions? Is prelim surgery included in these spots? You have access to this info.
It’s on your NRMP account under reports

Lol. Kinda. I mean I get to be called “doctor” without having to deal with the work and responsiblities that come with it.So as a PGY-O do you get payed? 😉
