Hey guys, I took the Test 2 PAT on the Dat Achiever...ran outta time/couldn't even fill in a few questions and got a 18 🙁

I scored like 21-22 on Barrons' and Topscore...I think it's the aperture and top/front/end and folding questions that are taking the bulk of my time.

Anyone have any tips on how to do the top/front/end? I tried using Barron's method of counting the lines, but it doesn't always work if there are two object connected to each other (and some other cases).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Apertures: There're only three views to be quickly determined with for each of the questions in this category. Problems usually test how well you may judge correct proprtions of all edges when rotating the object and mentally projecting/translating it to supposedly 2D revolvable Top/Bottom, Front/Back, or Left/Right shape in order to fit into one of the five holes given. As you go through the solutions, try stringently figure this out before proceeding to rotate the model (you may want to unshade the model for better visualization at times).

Top/Front/End: Line countings serve as priliminary step to eliminate certain wrong answers and will definitely not work if all four answers fulfil this requirement. I know it works for Barron, Kaplan, and Topscore, but in the real test, it will not be the case always. You should by now go a step further by relating those lines (events) in truer sense... and determine where depression(s)/protrusion(s) actually locate(s) in the missing view you've been asked to. Doing this will greatly enhance your own ability to tell whether a solid or a hidden line with appropriate extension should appear there or not. (Suggest that you pop-up the Overview window displaying all of the 12 complete views and freeze the self-rotating models to manually play with it when needed)

Can you clarify "folding questions" refers to Paper Folding (Hole Punching) or Form Development (Pattern Folding)?

Another question...are you allowed to touch the screen w/ your hands?

I've never done that in the real test, but I strongly feel it's not going to be of much help unless you yourself have got something special/unique about it that you can share with the SDNers here.

I was referring to the form development...it's not bad, just takes a while to get the shape and mentally rotate it.

I use my hands to measure the angles...I just put it up to the screen and do it so that the lengths are roughly similar and judge it off that. It's been pretty successful for me so far.

Excellent, puncho. Whatever method you feel comfortable with, do it by all means. If having felt you improve on your Top-Font End skill and any other weaknesses, try give it a better shot and not run out of time in the next set of test. If you can honestly reach something like 19 or 20, guess you're not too far from being another achiever in this very section of the test many still don't do well. 👍 :luck:
