For those who have taken the DAT already, did you ever see anything like the Finance passage on Achiever's 2nd RC exam? Wow! i found it to be so hard!! Most of the Q's made you do calculations- isn't it what the QR is for? I hope nothing like that is in the test bank for the DAT...
Also, last time I took the DAt and got FRAPPed witht he ethics passage, I remember lots of "tone" Q's. Most i could not answer, because I did not understand the vocab. Where can I get practice for "tone" Q's? What are the different kinds of "tones" do the passages have? I just want to get the definitions down.
Thanks!!

Never used Achiever but on my RC, there was data given that you had to infer. That is, you can't search and destroy to get the answer. Good luck

Easy data as in "what percent of corn are genetically altered if the ratio of normal vs altered corn is 1:3" ? or equations from non-science topics where you had to calculate interest earned with weird formulas being given to you ect... finance stuff?
Thanks!

I think I know what questions supraman is talking about... I had a few similar questions on my DAT.

^damn...nice DAT scores. i assume u're the same chessxwizard guy on AEF cuz i see ur sn there alot lol.

Yep! That's the version I got... and yes, I am chessxwizard on AEF too.

Yeah, RC was pretty straightforward... there were a few that were just off the wall but nothing too crazy.

Not sure about the percent corn there lol

At least on mine, no interest questions. It was some data collected pictures where you had to analyze what was going on, almost like a northern/southern blot but you wouldn't know how to answer without reading. Good luck "ms popular"😀

🙂 I honestly really admire that you are going to retake the DAT, that's why I want to try to give you all the tips I can and want you to get into your UoP spot! Hope you do well or I'm gonna steal your UoP spot!

I got the calcium/matrix/brain one, and although I thought it wasn't too bad overall, it had some questions I wasn't used to. I'd done Kaplan and Achiever, and I didn't have a single one of those questions where they give you a statement and a reasoning, and you have to answer if the statement was true but the reason was false/unrelated, etc, so that caught me off guard. As far as the tone questions, I'm pretty sure every one I've come across has been "Informative" - it is rather hard to tell the tone of the author in most of these passages. Also, I wasn't expecting questions with graphs that you had to interpret them using the info in the passage, but I guess that's a good way to test if you actually understood it.

When I got the the Language and the Brain passage, I got a big smile, because I had just taken "Language and the Brain" (N160) upper division bio elective at UCI a few quarters before. 😀 I did think it was weird that all three of my passage were science based, most of my practice tests had like 2 science, and then something silly like "Definitions of Urbanization Through The Ages." I ended up getting a 30, which totally blew me away, and was higher than anything I'd gotten before, so just be sure to try again, and maybe try some new strategies, that's what helped me, good luck!

I know! I didn't even have it in the realm of possibilities that I'd get a 30 in anything. From what I remember, AA: 22 TS: 20 RC: 30 QR: 18 GC: 23 OC: 19 Bio: 18 PAT: 18 , so a bit of a spread there, and I was suprised I got an 18 in PAT since it was so much harder than what I was used to with Kaplan, angle ranking kicked my ass when I never missed it in Kaplan.

Don't worry... you got a perfect score on what many people regard as the hardest section of the DAT. I second the angle ranking... there were a few that looked IDENTICAL, as if they made a mistake by copying the angle over in the same question...

Thanks! Yeah, there were 2 questions where they had like "V V" and then what looked like the same exact angles pointed the other direction.

Here's to hoping that Harvard is ULTRA impressed with my RC score and takes me on spot! haha =D
