I was just wondering if my reasoning on why acid/base reactions are exothermic is correct. My understanding so far is this:

Strong bases and strong acids are strong because they have weaker bonds and therefore (because of these weaker bonds) the dissociation of H+'s and OH-'s tends to be favored. When forming the conjugate acid and conjugate base, stronger and more stable bonds (compounds) are formed causing delta H to be negative (releasing heat).

Any clarification about this would be appreciated. Thanks! 🙂
