I am in the process of building a school list for the coming application cycle. I was checking out ACOM's website. I found the quote below on their admissions page. I studied abroad a few years back through a program brokered by my university. I was graded by my home university as P/F. Because of that, I didn't try to make top marks. It seems unfair for ACOM to evaluate my transcript from abroad in a manner other than pass/fail. Plus, figuring out how to order, send and get these foreign transcripts evaluated could be a huge pain. Has anyone else delt with this? It's kind of a bummer. I haven't seen anything else not to like about ACOM.

"Coursework taken at other foreign institutions must be evaluated for U.S. equivalence by one of the following evaluation services, and an official copy must be sent from the service directly to AACOMAS. You should also have a copy sent to you for completing the AACOMAS application. Request a course by-course evaluation and list the courses, subject codes, semester hours, and grades on the AACOMAS Academic Record or Professional School Academic Record as per the instructions. Your application will not be complete without an official evaluation. Transfer credit appearing on U.S. institution transcripts, student copies of an evaluation or other foreign evaluations will not be accepted."

Life's not fair. Many med schools do not accept foreign transcripts

At least you have found this out before submitting your app, I trust?

I am fine if they don't accept foreign transcripts/classes. They were liberal studies classes. I want to avoid going on a foreign transcript chase if possible. What other schools are like this?

All of them, you have to do this for your AACOMAS primary application

My understanding is that I won't need to find foreign transcripts, unless I decide to apply to ACOM. I haven't noticed this requirement at other schools. I'll keep digging through other school's admissions websites.

According to the AACOM / AACOMAS website," If your CREDITS AND/OR GRADES for these courses DO NOT APPEAR on your undergraduate transcript, you should report that you attended a foreign institution. You do not need to list your courses under the foreign school, as AACOMAS does not allow foreign coursework to be recorded. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTATION UNLESS AN EVALUATION IS REQUIRED BY YOUR DO PROGRAM. Please check with your DO program to determine if they will require a foreign evaluation."

Also, the caps in the quote come from them.

I'll call AACOM to verify that I am reading it correctly and report back. I'll also go through my school list and see if any other schools have this requirement.

I haven't called AACOM to confirm that I am correctly reading how to report my study abroad. However, in addition to ACOM, Touro also has stipulations for additional review of study abroad credits.
