ACT/SAT vs. 2015 MCAT correlation

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Put the graphs up so far. Very limited data; not reliable at all yet.

Dude, is SDN and reddit the only sources for your data? Check to see if your residuals are random because I smell heavy bias in your methods.

Dude, I know. This has already been said like 5 times. I've suggested to circumvent some of this problem that people ask their friends and post their stats. People can PM me their stats. Do you have any other suggestions?

What question are you trying to answer with this study? I can offer better suggestions on how to improve your methods if I know what you are trying to understand.

I think his goal is to draw correlation stats from this. I don't mind it, but there are definitely many variables that vary widely (eg. study time, maturity at time of exam, types of material tested, the degree to which each exam is study-able).
It would be interesting though if a chart can be made that can predict your max MCAT score from your ACT/SAT. Like "if you got a 30 on the ACT there's a 90% chance your max score will be between 508 and 515" or something like that.

It would be interesting to know this and I suspect many med schools are collecting data for such a study based on questions from their secondaries.

I scored 99th percentile for the ACT and SAT but fell somewhat short of that mark on the MCAT.

Woe is me.

haha my SAT was a 1140/1600 and my mcat was a 525 (100th percentile)...... sigh, shoulda worked harder in HS

a 1140/2400 would be alarmingly low, bordering on illiterate.

With a 525 MCAT....
That'd make one heck of a diversity essay!
haha. No, I got a 570/570, perfectly even on my math and reading for an 1140 total out of 1600. But to be fair, in high school I never opened a book to study ever, and for the mcat I studied for over 500 hours. College, really deciding to go into medicine, changed my work ethic radically.

1140 out of 1600 is acceptable. I was joking about a 2400 score, on which you'd have to average 380 (remember base score is 200 per section). That'd be scary! 😉

what percentile did I even get for my SATs? I'm guessing 78th

Just looked it up lol its around 70th percentile actually. 70th percentile vs 100th percentile.... hmmmmmmmm. lol

55o CR and 690 M for me on SAT , (1240). I did absolutely zero studying in high school and I think at the time had read maybe two actual (i.e. not children's) books in my life-book reports I would cliff notes even in AP English. 517 total on MCAT. My point is I think it has less to do with the differences in what they test (ultimately critical thinking of material you should be familiar with in both cases), and more to do with how much effort one has devoted to their studies.

I mean, we scored relatively close for both our SATs and MCATs. Relatively. And we both never studied in HS but studied for the MCAT. So yeah. I agree with u

in my mind 1140~1240 but 525>>>>>>>>>>>>>>517 haha but in a very general sense yes...relatively haha

Isn't that like 95th percentile? Dude your confidence bands were up to 519 and mine were down to 523. that means there could have been a percentile different of just 1 percentile between us. We scored similarly. It just feels like I did a lot better than you because 517 and 525 are 8 away

Hm. Any suggestions on how I convert the old SAT scores to new ones? Is there a conversion chart?

No writing sections on the old 1600 scale. That's it.

Newest SAT (also 1600 scale) is also without writing. And no score deduction, so pretty much everyone will do a lot better.

I know the differences. Just wondering if there is any way to do an accurate conversion?

Your total score - your writing score.

For the newest version just laugh and make generic age jokes.

Edit: see @WedgeDawg 's post above

Updated the graphs. Currently SAT is looking to be less correlated. Possibly due to the fact that ACT is more math & science based. Still very little data though.

There is no point in me reporting my scores either since you are taking only 2015 MCAT scores.

It's ight; speculation and discussion is welcome. I realize there have only been like three score releases so far. Limited population.

Lol sorry to throw off the data.

ACT: 31
MCAT 2015: 502

However, math and science on ACT were lowest with 28.
36 on reading and english, which probably contributed to my 128 verbal on MCAT.

There is no such thing as "throwing off" data. It is what it is haha. Thanks for your stats!

Notice how no one has reported an MCAT below 500 yet for your graphs, even though half the scores overall should be there.

Which is definitely the problem with the method of data collection. I imagine it's pretty challenging to get people to self report that they got <490 in any medium, though.
