Just be ready to walk the walk and talk the talk when asked what piece of music you like.
I had an interesting conversation with a director of admission and he asked a student a really technical quesiton about music and playing the piano and that student gave him a lame ass answer, turned out this kid had never played the piano in his life. Instant rejection........
oh my god, funny story about my interview at UPenn...
I'm a pianist, and wrote that on my app in a few places. Anyway, I had one of the last interviews of the day at Penn and with a guy that only did one other, I believe? (So I couldn't get the scoop on him
😉) Anyway, he picked me up in the room and the first words out of his mouth were,
"Hello! I'm Dr. _______. I have a piano in my office, and your entire interview will be solely based on your audition."
*pause, where I thankfully saw a twinkle in his eye*
"Of course! And which genre would you prefer? I didn't bring much with me."
"Well, don't you have all your pieces by memory?"
etc. etc. and we started the interview.
Also, during our chatting I realized he was super cool (but all with a straight face) and we had a few friendly debates and even some teasing! It was the most surreal but fun interview I had!
