Volunteered in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Surgery, and the Cardiac Catherization Lab.
In the MICU, was given the opportunity to closely observe doctors both interact with and treat the patients. Often took part in morning rounds with the local residents, and observed them interacting with one another (conversing not only on matters of patient health, but also exchanging knowledge concerning various medical conditions). Personal duties included: ordering medical equipment, replenishing supplies, organizing the work space, preparing patient charts, transporting patients between rooms, and distributing meals to patients.
In Cardiac Surgery, mediated relations between families within the waiting room and the surgical staff. Worked to inform patient families and friends on the condition of those in surgery, and took the time to continually note which patients occupied the surgery waiting room, the operating room, and the recovery room.
In the Cardiac Catherization Lab, worked as the waiting receptionist.
