Hi

I currently work for a small insurance company and at 31 I am thinking about my chances at completing a pre-med or pre-dent post bac and attempt to get into medical school. I would need to both boost my grades and take the MCAT, so I'm thinking about the travel time and age at completion. I am risk adverse, which was why I didn't continue pre-med as an undergrad, I worked in a lab at Morehouse School of Medicine and met a guy that was 30 when he finally got into med school (meharry) after completing a post bac. I want to be sure not completely insane for thinking this could be done at my age, I don't have kids and I am single so it would be only me to bear the punishment of medical school at my age.

Making the transition at 31 isn't unheard of, but it would help to know what your GPA is so we know what you need to do to build that up. And how did you overcome the risk aversion that stopped you the first time?

My GPA was a 2.9.....2.7 was math/science.....I finished with over 140 credits, I was a math/engineering student for a while before I dropped engineering....At one point I was working two jobs (lab tech and mall job).....I am still risk averse but I feel like this is worth it when I think lifetime cost/benefit. I do have student loans but I'd consider military service to help pay.....I'd want to be an ER doc.
