19. The addition of Potassium Iodide as a nutritional supplement to common table salt would most directly affect the function of which of these glands?

A) Thyroid
B) Sweat Gland
C) Adrenal Cortex
D) Kidney
E) Parathyroid

Answer is A - Thyroid. I don't get it? What does the thyroid have to do w/ salts? Thought it was D....

The thyroid gland produces two hormones T3 and T4 which are derivatives of iodine...KI potassium iodide...thats why.

I answered this question with A because of just thinking like the bigger picture. Whenever I look at those table salt it always says "iodized" and that's apparently to prevent hyperthyroidism. That's the only way I got this answer correct.

Back in the day, people would get goiters (a huge lump on your throught) due to iodine deficiency. The women who had these were thought to be attractive.. for some reason... lol... Today, this has been solved by cultivating the plants we eat in iodine-rich soils.
