A painting which is 4 feet wide and 5 feet long is surrounded by a rectangular frame 6-inches wide. What percent of the area of the picture and the frame is occupied by the frame?

A. 10 1/2
B. 20
C. 30
D. 33 1/3
E. 50

Answer : D

I was doing QR on sample dat, I timed my self, I did questions as fastest I could but only had 12 seconds remaining when I was done. =( maybe im just bad at math.

anyways this is one of the questions I got wrong =(
maybe it's just my english, but I have no idea what the question is asking.
I know the conversion between feet and inches, but can't really get what it's asking.

So you have a painting which has 20 sq feet area. ( 4 X 5 )
and Frame is 6-inches wide (it means its 6 inches thick right?). so painting with frame area is 24.75 ( 4.5 X 5.5) Area occupied by the frame alone is 4.75 right?

So area occupied by the frame
4.75 / 24.75 = like 20 percent.

=( im so confused
:scared:

They want to know (area of frame) / (total area).

So the area of frame + picture = 5 x 6 = 30 (the frame adds 0.5 feet to each side so 1 foot to the width and 1 foot to the length).
Area of picture is 4 x 5 = 20
Frame is 30-20 = 10

10/30 = 0.33 = 33.3% ?
