Has anyone sent a gift to a member of an ADCOM to try to improve your chance of being accepted? Maybe a case of scotch? Cuban cigar? Tickets to a sports event? What do you think?

i wouldn't send anything that you had to buy on the black market (like the cubans). i mean, at that point, why not just send the guy a hooker w/ an 8-ball.

Yes Mr. Rosewater has the right idea. The gift itself is insignifcant. Don't spend too much money on it. In fact, the less the better, s/he will be more inclined to accept it. It is more important that ADCOM member accept the gift. After that point, s/he is yours and you may commence the extortion.

Giving adcom people gifts??? 😱 You've got to be kidding??!!

I agree.

However, in today's society, I've come to believe that people do crap like this to get an acceptance. Makes me mad to think about how hard I worked to get in while other people may just get in based on money they (or their parents) have given (donated) to a school.

I am sure that some people will try anything for an acceptance. One of my MCAT teachers claimed to work in the admissions office at his state university. He said that a well-known businessman in the area requested a meeting with the Dean of the medical school. After the meeting, the Dean came out of his office and told the staff that the guy offered to donate a lot of money to the school if his daughter got accepted. He said that he declined the offer and made some sort of comment about things like that happening all of the time. 🙄

Yep, that reinforces my idea. I have also heard of things like that happening. Makes you wonder how often the giver/donor is taken up on his/her offer.
