Adcoms, would you want your children to go to medschool?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If your child expressed interest in medschool, would you tell them to pursue it or would you tell them to pursue another totally different field based off of your experience?
I would be encouraging and supportive if my kids truly and passionately aspired to become doctors. They would still have to do all of the work, do well in school, make sacrifices along the way, and achieve their goals.

As their parent, I would not expect them to be perfect automatons; and I would make sure they know I am their loyal and loving teammate along the way.

Hmmm ... now I sound like one of my own parents! Thanks Mom and Dad! 🙂

My son is an art prodigy. We know where he's headed.
To your extra bedroom as unemployment overtakes him?

lol jk

Either that or be a lawyer, because she loves to argue!!

Also unless she wants to work in the DA's office or be a public defender, 95% of law is doc review. Almost no trial/court time so the argument lovers suffer.

I was an art prodigy when I was growing up and my parents "knew" where I was headed. But where am I now? Applying to med school. 😉

Neither of my kids has any hint of interest in anything related to Science as a career.

How old are they? I didn't have any interest in a science career until I was in my late twenties.

Agree here 1000%. It IS one of my dreams to be able to hood one of my kids at graduation. But it won't be DO or MD, alas.

I constantly tell my 10 year old daughter that she should be a policewoman or a teacher, because she loves to boss people around.

Terrible idea right now. Hopefully it'll be different when she's 18, but probably not.

Same here. I was known as being really artistic. Went down the totally opposite path and enjoyed the sciences. 🙂
Dude in the Navy Band told me I could get into Juilliard. Sometimes I wish I had tried, but I think medicine was the right choice
