Adcoms?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They're verified faculty. It's not clear if you can verify who is an Adcom member though. My university doesn't post them as far as I could tell in a couple minutes of searching the inter and intra net.
Having said that, I don't doubt that they are who they say they are.

Cuz my situation is unique not all good not all bad and I can post on SDN but it's hard to decipher the information when you get it from people who are applying or haven't applied. I'm at a point where I would really like to know if my situation can be overcome or if it's a lost cause.

So create a thread in this forum: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forums/what-are-my-chances.418/

Make it a serious post with everything you possibly can about your application. You can see who people are by the information below their names. Adcoms are human. They have differences of opinions. I would never put stock in what a single person says here or anywhere. That having been said, of the half a doze or so adcoms on SDN, they agree on 95%+ of things and for good reason. Medical school admissions isn't a particularly complicated topic.

If you're not sure about the quality of the advice you're receiving, there are a few ways to check the general reliability of the poster.

1. Check the Essential SDN info sticky and see if the poster has been referenced. If so, they're probably giving you good advice
2. If the person has a banner that says either SDN Moderator, SDN Administrator, or SDN Advisor, they're probably giving you good advice (this does not necessarily hold true for any other banners - just because someone's been here for 7 years doesn't mean they're giving good advice)
3. Search the poster's history. If you want a quick but not always accurate test, check the number of people who like their advice posts. I don't really recommend this. It's better to see how their advice is received, where they are generally posting, whether or not people are posting to agree with their advice, and whether it seems to make logical sense.
4. Ask for clarification for things that might not make sense.

You don't need adcoms to give you good advice and sometimes adcoms may give you advice that isn't particularly useful to your specific situation.

Only thing that matters is post to like ratio. Ignore anyone under 1:1, read, but question anything under 1:2 and take as gospel anyone who is greater than 1:2.

I'm kidding of course... 😉 :ninja:

There are so many things involved, different variables that it is difficult to explain. I am a non-trad so this whole thing spans several years.

Honestly, as a proxy, this isn't even that bad (provided you specify a minimum number of posts, like 200)...

I don't understand what point you're trying to make here with relation to your original question.

If your willing to hear my situation I could pm you.

You can also post in the non-trad thread. Adcoms and other non-trads that have gone through med school also tend to answer posts over there.

Yes. LizzyM, Catalystik, Goro, Gyngyn, QofQuimica and Med Ed! They are the ones that frequent the pre-med forums the most.

If you have any concerns you could consider creating a thread addressing your current situation and perhaps provide a reasonable plan of action that you hope to complete by the time you plan on submitting your application. Or PM them if you would rather not address it publicly.

How do you guys decide who gets the SDN advisor banner? Are all "SDN advisors" adcoms?

Pretty sure I'm the only one with a >1:2 ratio 😉 at least with a large number of posts...

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/members/?type=likes

I guess SS is getting close though. I will point out of course that it is completely meaningless because most posters have been around since before the 'Like' system went into place, so they started with a lot of posts...

Yessssss greater than 1:1. Life goals achieved. You know. Other than the whole "going to med school" deal.

Yeah that's why it's a good proxy 😛

@onceawolverine too, though he has only like 500 posts and only comes on SDN anymore to be mean to me
To be fair, I come on to post dumb gifs sometimes too...

Exhibit A - Exams and ECs got me feelin some kind of way

But yea mostly just to be mean to you.

For all we know, SDN is a for-profit headquartered in a fiscal paradise, whose administrators and certain key members are in league to defrock the pre-doctoral community by giving false legitimacy to used cars salesmen passing as "adcoms".

I, for one, would bet that @Goro is, as a matter of fact, a young unemployed slumster from Western Africa with a proclivity for online extortion by way of internet cafés. Of course, that is but a theory...

:wtf:We do know that sarcasm doesn't travel well over the electrons.

I only pick on you because of your tough skin and great sense of humor, admirable Goro!
Please do not be offended by my foolishness.
