Add schools or wait?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To those of you wondering, my stats are below avg but acceptable. I applied to 10 schools matched pretty well for my GPA/DAT combo.

If money is no object, you have nothing to lose. If money matters, though, you'd be better off saving it for next cycle and applying early.

However, I suppose you could always add NYU if you haven't applied there already. They seem to keep interviewing until particularly late in the cycle.

I agree. If you are going to apply more broadly, do not hesitate. Get it done.

I actually don't have much money at this point. I'd have to save up for a few weeks to make it work. Do you two think I should still apply?

There 22 schools there are no longer within reach for this year.

Ok, thanks. I'm not talking about those 22 schools.

Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't. This is brutal, but I'll say it because I'd want someone to be honest with me: competition gets even harder as time goes on because you're competing for a smaller number of seats... and if you didn't have much luck earlier in the cycle, I wouldn't really bank on your luck increasing later on. At this point, you could apply to some really expensive private schools and try your luck there, but you have to ask yourself if you would rather A) start dental school this year, no matter the cost or B) wait another year, apply early, and get into a school that is more affordable.

Next cycle, though, IF you don't get in this time (and you still might!!!), I would apply to more than 10 schools do you don't have a repeat of this year. I really think, though, that you might get some post-December interviews. You applied late, and you say your stats are not exactly at the top of the pile--they might just be putting you off for a little bit longer. Keep on working on your application, though, just in case! 🙂 Best of luck!

In "a few more weeks" you can add another 20 schools that you will not be "talking about".
