I am applying to medical school this year and I have a 3.7 GPA in Biomedical Engineering, Nuclear Physics, and Biochemistry.
I had mono, H1N1, and bronchitis all in the same year during one of my years in school in it brought down my GPA. I have consistently made 4.0 during the first 4 semesters of my college, the next 3 semesters my GPA was on the lower end of 3.5, and now I am bringing my GPA back up as I am well again. I had to take 2 W's because during my illness I missed 4 labs in a lab class, and policy was only 3 labs could be missed even in the event of an illness. My other W I took was the lecture class that went with the lab which one was required to drop. I have one more W of which I was taking a foreign language class that was too advanced for my level after not taking the language for 4 years, thus I decided to take the lower level.
When I was ill, I the mono made me so tired that after class I would go straight to bed. I used to be a very active athlete, but during that timeframe I was too tired to do anything do to my weak immune system and my grades dropped and I gained 30-40 pounds.
Now I am currently better, I am back to making good grades and I am back into peak physical shape (lost 30-40 pounds).
I was wondering if I should send an addendum to medical schools about my unique situation, because they will probably be wondering why my grades dropped so suddenly?
