What are others' experiences with this?

I've had several patients call back saying the pharmacist told them there is a nationwide Adderall shortage, but it seems to typically only be a problem when going to CVS or Walgreens; other pharmacies haven't seemed to have the issue. Just today, I've had 3 patients call back saying the pharmacy couldn't fill the Rx due to the "national Adderall shortage."

The shortage seems to depend on the chain of pharmacy. Specific chains have made deals with specific manufacturers, and it appears that only specific manufacturers are becoming deficient.

NPR covered this issue recently. As bad as it is for psychiatric patients, some patients, especially some requiring selenium for IV nutrition can't get ahold of it because the generic manufacturer isn't making enough. How bad is that? For these patients, without it, they could die.

In my area at least, but I've been told this is actually nationwide, we're experiencing shortages of Haldol and Prolixin Dec. This is extremely frustrating especially given that a bulk of the forensic psychiatric population is violent when off of meds, and many of them have a long history of noncompliance until the depot meds were given to them.

We have had the same problem on and off for about a year in South Carolina. Not XR, just IR. Also, no one had IR Ritalin. We were out of Haldol Dec for a while which was awful. The shortages are a pain.

My hospital has no injectable Ativan.
