Hi guys, sorry if this isn't the appropriate place to post but I'm seeking more information on the long-term side effects of adderall and am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Specifically, my concern is that adderall is similar to cocaine, and I always hear about cocaine and cardiomyopathy, sudden cardiac death, etc, but never with adderall. Is there an actual difference between the two drugs that account for this or does using adderall still put you at risk for these cardiac side effects?

From your old posts, it would seem to me that you are in medical school now. Have you yet attempted to find the answer to this on your own in any way?

This is the right place to ask such a question, but I'm just unclear on what you already know and what part of the answer you're having difficulty putting together.

Fair points, and yes I have - although I admit that literature searches and pubmed have always been weaknesses of mine. From what I read, there are no long-term cardiac side effects from adderall, but if you have preexisting heart conditions/diseases then don't take it (which I don't). I plan to look further when I have a free moment or two but figured the issue was important enough for me to post here. I also tend to prefer answers from humans over textbooks (different quality).

At therapeutic doses...

I wouldn't say the same for the guy abusing it popping 180mg daily.

Yea, but therapeutic stops at 20mg TID (60 total) per day. My doctor never explained the importance of drug hollidays (not taking it on weekends, etc).

If this is for personal, medical advice (rather than academic interest or a question about patient management from an MD perspective), I am not sure this is the appropriate place...
