has anyone ever tried using these while studying?

It's adderall

Regardless of weather or not you have attention deficit or not they will increase your attention and concentration. However they do have side effects and are illegal to take without a prescription.

They both will show up on a drug test.

thanks for you insincere concern.
I have been diagnosed with ADD and currently take Concerta.
I am thinking about switching to adderall

Have you ever thought about switching to strattera? It's expensive as it's the newest one on the market, but it's growing in popularity because it's not a DEA controlled substance (ie not addictive), and it's side effect profile is supposedly pretty mild for most people.

monet -- if you are on Concerta, I'd assume you'd already have experience studying, since most schools are pretty well into the semester. Unless you just started taking it.

No experience with any stimulants, but I just started Strattera and it seems to be helping so far. The downside is that it hasn't been on the market for very long, so there's no information on long-term effects. Also, it takes a few weeks before it's effective, as opposed to the instant difference people feel from the amphetamine-based drugs. BUT, it is nonaddictive, doesn't give you the afternoon or evening crash that some experience with the short-term stimulants, and your doctor can call in refills instead of you having to make an appointment and sitting in a waiting room for an hour.

One thing I have heard is that for people who have been on stimulants such as Ritalin for a long time, Strattera doesn't seem to work as well as it does for newly-diagnosed people who haven't used other drugs. But then, methadone doesn't really "do it" for a lot of heroin addicts, either ... 😉

Hethera - Have you noticed being really drowsy, getting headaches, or getting alot of nausea with strattera? If you haven't do you take it with food? Before bedtime?

Does anyone here have experience with Provigil for the treatment of ADHD? I have been fighting with ADHD for about 11 years now, Ritalin LA works for me, but only if I get enough sleep, which never happens in medical school. I hear that Provigil helps without some of the side effects seen with stimulant based medications. Anyone have any information on this?

Ritalin/Adderall may be stimulants, but people w/ADHD that take those drugs do not become drug abusers, and there is a ton of data on that - that their rates of abusing drugs are comparable to non-ADHD people. And the studies also show that stimulant treated ADHD users abuse drugs at a far lower rate than untreated ADHD patients.

Plus, amphetamines have been studied for 60 years. We know so much about them, and are pretty comfortable w/short and long term effects, efficacy, and also about their (mythical) addiction potential.

That being said, changing ADHD medication in the middle of a semester/school year is a just an academic disaster waiting to happen. Unless Ritalin is failing, I don't think that there is a justifiable reason to switch. Adderall XR does show slightly greater efficacy in one study as compared to regular Adderall and Ritalin, but there isn't any other data.

Strattera is non-stimulant, and people buy into the 'Adderall/Ritalin makes kids junkies' stories that are on Dateline. But, it is so new. Why not just go with what is very safe and works, until either of them fail?
