With the uncertainty brought on by not being accepted December 1st, I am seriously considering adding a few more schools to my list. Specifically, thinking about UNLV, BU, and LSU. I know their deadlines have not passed yet, but I am wondering how long it would take for them to get my app and DAT scores if I sent them ASAP. Would it be worth it? I know there's still a shot with the interviews I have coming up (and schools I have yet to hear from), but if I end up having to go through this expensive, emotionally-draining process again, I would at least like to know I did everything I could the first time around. Thanks in advance guys, and I really appreciate honest input...and if its not too late, any other school suggestions?

Wow, its a shame...and you have some great stats too! Hang in there, I have a feeling something will go right for you soon. If you submit apps now, I think it will be at least late Jan/early Feb by the time your app gets completed at those schools. Not only is it a busy time at the admissions offices, the holidays will only delay things a little more on the processing end. Good luck!

Don't bother with UNLV, they only consider OOS who apply early (this info is in one of the threads that has been stickied). Also, LSU only takes 2-3 OOS, so I would say the same for them.

BU is a good idea, and perhaps other schools such as USC, UDM, NYU, and Temple (Don't know if you applied to these schools, just looked at your predents and went off of that).

I know UDM says they don't take people with less than 17 on any section, but I've heard of people being invited and getting accepted regardless. With your stats, I think you will at least get one of these schools, if not more, to give you and interview and perhaps an acceptance (hopefully).

I'd go with private schools rather than state schools at this point

So I was trying to remember why I didn't apply to some of the big private schools (NYU, BU, Temple), and then looking at one of doc toothache's posts, I realized that none of the 3 supposedly take AP credit for prerequisite classes (I just have AP cred for physics I)...although, it also says Indiana does not take AP credit, but I still got an interview there. Should I just apply to these schools and hope they overlook the fact too? 🙁

Considering the fact that your OOS, don't bother with UNLV. It's a state school with preference for Nevada residents and a huge pool of OOS applicants from CA.
This is my personal opinion:
I wouldn't waste money on adding new schools to my application at this point. Most like, by the time they receive your application along with the other material, over half of their class will be established.
Take your chances and see what happens after January. Many schools interview/accept students post-January, so it's not like you don't have a shot at dental school this cycle.
Worse comes to worst, you will apply next cycle. I can assure you that you're not the only one. I applied twice, before I got in. It's really not the end of the world.
If you don't hear anything by the end of this cycle, you can start fresh for the next cycle.

Good luck👍

Bump...thanks so far guys!

I think you can add some schools at this point.
My friend took DAT in Nov 2007, then he applied some schools in January,2008. it was really late but he got some interviews for Feb. His stat was similar to yours. 22/22/22 3.6/3.7.
So if you want, just add more schools which accept good amount of OOS. Who knows you end up get in the schools. Anything is possible.

LSU would be a waste of money...but maybe NYU would be worth it.

Personally I would just wait it out, but I understand how frustrated you must be. The app. fee for NYU may seem like a lot of $, but in the long run it really isn't. You have good stats I'm sure you will hear back from somewhere!

Maybe, I think its overlooked, but I have a lot of AP credit, and haven't heard from those school syet. But I submitted fairly late.

I would suggest adding BU, but not UNLV. I added BU, and UNLV on New Years Eve last year and had an interview offer from BU on late January for a early March interview. I didn't get in but someone from my interview date and later on definitely did. UNLV, on the other hand, I got rejected late February for last cycle. I applied mid August this year and received an UNLV interview this year so it is true that you have to apply early for UNLV and thus I wouldn't recommend adding it. Hope it helps.

Why not Pitt or Louisville? I don't know if it's past the due date. But I know that Pitt holds a lot of interviews for post-December. Louisville is still giving out interviews now.

For piece of mind, I think you should add schools. It's not a huge cost and you have a REALLY good chance at many schools. If I were you, I would add what I could.

Louisville opened 40 OOS this year. Pitt is private and accepts lots of OOS.

I am rooting for you Victoria!!

Thanks everyone...to the last poster- I did apply to Louisville (haven't heard a peep from them except to say my app is complete), and unfortunately Pitt's deadline has passed. So from the schools that are left (whose deadlines haven't passed) I am thinking I will definitely add BU and NYU, and I am debating between Temple and USC...which one would I have a better shot at?

Thanks again! 😀

I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply to more schools, but I think it is pretty late. It will take about 4 weeks for the schools to get everything (DAT scores and aadsas) so we are talking early January by at the earliest.
I think you will have a good chance at a few schools once the 2nd round of acceptances come around.... Nova especially since some people will decline due to cost.
GL and keep us updated.

Since it is this late into the cycle, I would say apply to school haven't given out too many interviews and do have a larger class size to fill. I believe those schools are USC, BU, NYU, Tufts, Temple, and may be even UCLA. I think NYU and USC you will have a definite shot at them.

I think you would get into USC. I know that a lot of people from Florida get in there, at least from UF, but I don't see why they wouldn't interview/accept you

I say add schools ... you don't want to regret it later on. Sure it's kind of a pain, but you never know what may come out it. If you cast a wider net, you don't have to bank on the schools you're currently waitlisted at and the schools at which you have upcoming interviews.

It is sort of late, but if the deadline hasn't passed, that's all that you need to be concerned with ... I say go for NYU and USC for sure. Good luck 😉
