I was wondering what the policy for adding school to ones AADSAS application?

Also, I was wondering if anyone has considered a 7yr DDS/PhD program to help boost their resume' for a possible match in ortho, oral, or the like?

Thanks!

I don't think it's a good idea. Ph.D is not something easy to achieve like M.S.

Combined DDS/PhD programs are REALLY hard to get into. Odds are, if you can get accepted to a combined program, you are a good enough student to match into Ortho without it. If you enter a "real" PhD program, it's probably going to take you an extra 5-7 years after dental school (and probably closer to 7, with a non-trivial chance of taking even longer). Probably not the most efficient use of your time.

i think doing dds/phd just to get into speciality is the stupidest idea. schools select dds/phd applicants very carefully so that they work in academia and not to get you into speciality. And this is TONS of work.

not to mention those programs are for people who are innately passionate about research. if you want to boost your resume, you can still do research in dschool without wasting 3 years and someone else's spot.

now, a better question might be, should i do dds/phd so i don't have to pay for dental school? but i think that's silly too, unless you are legitimately interested in research as a career.

From what I know , it's very competitive-- meaning that at first you have to have great grades at the dschool, and then go to the PhD which is very competitive; so , I think at first you have to get into the dschool at first and then you may go PhD . (actually, I've heard from dental students that by the end of D-4 80% of students changed their minds about specializing-probably, it was enough for them to spend 4 years in dental school😉
