Is it worth it to add schools at this point in the game? I'm really upset that I didn't add Loma Linda when I first applied, but I would love to attend their school and think very highly of it. Do you think there would still be a possibility of getting an interview? Or is it a waste of money at this point?

Bump! I was also wondering this. I kind of want to add UOP to my list after I heard they put more emphasis on DAT's compared to GPA. It's also a very nice school in a very nice location, although I kept it off my list because I was not sure about the whole 3-year accelerated program.

My father in law and uncle went to UOP and loved it. They both speak really highly of how well the school prepared them clinically. I don't think I'll get in cause of lower DAT scores, but if I got accepted its my first choice. Anyways, can anyone shed some light on adding schools at this point?

It is still not "too" late to apply, i believe. Depends on your stats, and residency.

Go ahead it's only a few more dollars. Some people are applying right now, which is late for SDNers.

OP: What do you like about Loma Linda? My mentor went there and I think the main reasons she decided to go there was because of their program for international dentists, religious background, and the proximity to family support. She said Loma Linda let her keep the basic tools that she used in school even after she graduated (I'm not sure if that's normal practice for most other dental schools). She didn't like the surrounding environment at all because it was located in the desert valley where earthquakes and fires are common. She said it rained only one time for one year. I remember she mentioned how in the east coast, patients cancel appointments because of the snow. But at Loma Linda, patients cancel appointments because the fires are passing through highways. She also said the area mainly attracts retired old folks from Seattle and the Midwest who want to settle down in cheap properties. So your patient pool is going to be a lot of retirees who were apparently really nice to her. Even though Loma Linda is a private school, she said it was a non-profit institution that was supported by a multitude of congregations. Don't forget that you'll need a letter from a religious leader.

Well there are a few reasons that I would really like Loma Linda. My grandparents live in redlands,ca.. So there would be some family support. I'm LDS, and feel that a school that understands my religious obligations would suit me very well. I also would like to specialize and I am very interested in their 3 year Endo program that puts emphasis on implants. I know that my mind may change by that time, but from what I have heard Loma Linda prepares you well for both general practice and specialization. I just think the school has a lot to offer, and I think the campus is really great. Just my thoughts, oh and the whole fires and desert... Totally true haha

Unfortunately is not what you like about the school, is what the school likes about you. Find out if its worth it... by this we mean what are their trends with students (OOS friendly, ave GPA, ect...) But your original question is if it is too late; i think most of us can agree that is is border line, a little more inclined to not too late. If you got money to spare, go for it!!!!

Good Luck!

Yeah I don't know exactly what to think about their OOS friendliness. I mean the class of 2005 had 8 students from BYU which is where I did most of my undergrad (finishing in Kansas). I think that being LDS could help somewhat...not exactly sure. But I think I'm going to add it, i have been thinking about for a weeks. My app is going to resend tomorrow because my DAT score uploaded last night. Do you think if I add it now it will be mailed tomorrow?

No 🙁 they usually have applications ready by thursday to be sent friday. That sucks, but still add it. One more week will not be a big deal. And regarding their amount of students from BYU, that is great for you. Why can't it be you, we are part of the statistics. I hope everything turns out well.

It would seem odd to me that this early in the cycle that it's too late. It's late Aug. Weren't the early apps completed/verified around July? So in two months the cycle is effectively over? That seems overly anal.

Do it! I decided to apply to LECOM and MWU-IL late last cycle (September!) and ended up getting accepted to MWU. I'm glad I made that decision. Good luck!

Haha yeah I bet you are pretty happy you listened to your gut on that one. I added it last night. 80 bucks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
