I've seen some mention of a second QA period starting in August. Of course the board isn't any help for questions - is their any confirmation of this?

I am currently driving across the country and can schedule the test (with minimal studying) for later this week to be on my way, or I can schedule it for next week when I am in CA and give myself a couple days to study. However, that would put me in after August 1st and I'd really like to avoid being stuck in a QA since I am already delayed in starting my job.

Any official word?

Phone call to the board reveals that they do not tell anyone when they are going to QA and often report it retroactively (ie: on Sept 1 they say "we are QAing all exams after July 15th") so everyone please take it so I can get a paycheck!

Hey njac, any new info on the potential QA for California? I'm scheduled to take the CPJE on August 6th and would hate to get stuck in a QA.

BTW, what study materials are you using? Any tips greatly appreciated!

Took CPJE on the 14th and i still haven't heard the results back! is there an addtional QA already taking place?

Took it today.

<10 law questions.

Lots of brand/generic.

Know obvious diluents for IV meds: Phenytoin, Bactrim, Levothyroxine

I'm a practicing pharmacist but read over the 2011 Law Book on the website, didn't have time to get a copy of Weissman.

I took it on 7/30 too to avoid the QA period, but then I just heard someone took it by the end of July and still got stuck in the QA last year. Now I'm having doubt about the starting date of QA! 🙁

CPJE this coming saturday for me. Were there any calculations on the exam? Any other areas I should be focusing on?

Man, I hope another QA hasn't begun already. Really need to start working soon. Why does CA make things so difficult?

My only "calculations" were double checking dapto and enoxaparin doses when a weight was given in the question.

Has anyone recieved there results yet? I took my exam on 7/25 i'm hoping I get something on friday!!

I took the CPJE on 7/30 and got the result today! Yayyyy!!!! For those who took it earlier, you should check your mail too!

Got home, jumped out of the car and ran to the mailbox...and there it was! Green letter=Good to Go (Took mine 7/22)

Would any of you awesome people be able to check and see when your results were postmarked?

I took mine 7/30, but I didn't turn in my change of address until 8/3 so there's a chance it was already in the mail and has gone elsewhere. fingers crossed!

It was dated 8/3 on both the result and the instruction for license request. The envelope was postmarked as 8/4/11. Good luck!
(I took mine on 7/30 also.)

Do you guys know anything about the new QA?? Still no post on their web site, would it be possible that they wont do another one this year???

I don't know if there is going to be another QA in August. I've talked to many of my classmates and friends and many of them are taking it in the month of August. I expect that the BOP will NOT have a QA this month and proceed in sending the scores out and for those who took it early August, will get scores by the end of the month or early September.

July 30th. But my mail is being forwarded back and forth all over the country so I figure it's probably in transit somewhere.

My friends who took cpje between 7/23- 7/25 received their scores on monday. It was roughly 2 weeks. I hope they dont start another QA. I will be taking it next week.

Well, looks like they started another QA just like everyone expected:

"Effective August 8, 2011, the board instituted a quality assurance review of the California Practice Standards and Jurisprudence Examination for Pharmacists (CPJE). This means that there will be a delay in the release of all CPJE examination scores. This process is done periodically to ensure the reliability of the examination. The board will release scores as soon as possible. Based on historical patterns, the board anticipates results being released approximately late November or early December 2011.
The board encourages all qualified applicants to continue to schedule and take the CPJE exam. The greater the number of applicants who take the exam during this review period, the sooner results can be released."

Oh my god..... I took mine on August 8th........ I should've scheduled it earlier........

so how does this work? exams taken from now, until they're done collecting enough exams, won't get released until nov/dec? and everyone after that point will be unaffected?

how will I be affected if I'm planning on taking it in September or October?

No you wont be affected if you take it in September/December. That would be smart to take it around that time then you wont have to wait for 2 months to get your results.

Unfortunately I already scheduled mine for the 17th, so I am so frustrated right now🙁 I will have to wait 2 months to get my result and this delay will ruin my all plans...I should have scheduled earlier🙁((

I just realized, the waiting period is 3 months..not 2!! They say late November !! I can not believe this🙁(

Damn. Is there any other state that's as screwed up as CA? I took my CPJE on August 6th but nervous I still didn't make the cut.

It still boggles my mind how difficult the CA BOP makes it to be licensed here. Its so unreasonable to make candidates wait 3 months just to get their score. What happens if they fail? They have to wait another 3 months in order to take it again? Ridiculous.

Would you guys suggest getting an intern license during that period of waiting in order to have a bit of income? (I've been a practicing pharmacist in another state for the past 10 years.)

the board recommended I get an intern license when I asked those questions.

I don't know why they are so ridiculous. A coworker and I can't start our jobs without our licenses. At least we know we passed.

But if California is really so poor, they should get on those licenses. She and I both have jobs waiting for us (income tax) and apartments to furnish and want to buy cars. It would be very good for the economy for them to license us (both practicing pharmacists in other states). But no, they wish to make us wait FOREVER.

I think In CA you dont need to get your license physically to start a job. If you see your name on the boards web site that should be enough to get a job. When I was doing my internship there were residencies who did the same without their licenses.

Last year's QA started on August 2th, and they said they will release the results in October. Do you guys think they would do the same instead of November???
I can not even concentrate on studying..so upset🙁

Yeah, a friend of mine also told me that there were a couple of her friends last year who got stuck in the QA in August and they received their scores sometime in October.

Is it true that the ATT's were sent out later this year than the previous years? If so, then I guess we can count on filling those 400 spots earlier than expected.

I am not sure if they sent out ATT's later this year..but I got mine in 5 weeks.

A friend of mine who stuck in the April QA this year, got her result in a little more than 2 months. I very much hope that we wouldnt have to wait until November.

You mentioned 400 spots and I've read 300 in another thread, can anyone confirm how many spots they need for the QA and roughly how long it takes for them to collect it?

According to the Cadidate Information Bulletin for the CPJE sent by the Board of Pharmacy (yellow handbook), 400 people are needed for a QA.

You only need the license # as proof that you're licensed. I also need a the license # to get the pharmacist pay... I've been verifying my status daily. My pharmacist told me it would be available within a few days once they cash your $150 check. The big license & the pocket size one won't be mailed in 4-6 weeks. Sometimes, they are never sent; you need to contact BOP to remind them to send you.

Thanks Annap!

People have posted that if I am taking the exam in september, I will be clear of the QA, but how could I be sure?

I looked at the 2009 stats of cpje takers and there were only 1200 between April and september (roughly 240 exams per month) by that metric, most people taking the exam will be in the QA until the end of September or early October, right?

Of course the exception being that now is a peak time and well over 240 people are scheduled for August

You can NOT be sure about anything, these are all assumptions based on the previous years' patterns. Again, if you take it in September you wont have to wait 2 or more months because most likely the board is gonna release the results sometime in October. Last year people who stuck in August 1th QA, got their results in October. This year people who stuck in April first QA, got their results in a little more than 2 months.

Hope it helps!

😕 They don't release the results until they've met their 400 test quota. It doesn't matter if you schedule in September or January. If they haven't met the 400 test quota, you're affected until they do. Might as well take it in August and wait like everyone else. The more people that take it, the sooner they take it, the earlier everyone gets the results.
