Yes, as finals week (at UCLA) quickly approaches, I have become more indolent and less willing to nit-pick my application. A quick question to all of you that have applied or are currently applying...

Excluding the applicant personal essay, does anybody look at the additional info questions, i.e. the question that asks if anything occurred during your education that may have affected your performance? On the General Information packet it says that those answers won't be read by individual schools. So do I need to be painstakingly anal of grammar, punctuation and having a central thesis when writing about my mediocre dexterity?

I know, this is a lame question. I just have this weird feeling that while AADSAS downplays the significance of these questions, dental school admissions officers are quietly snickering in the background.

Dear Literati81,

I think the most important essay is your essay.

You should be very careful of grammar and form when you write other essays. These can be almost as important as your others. My manual dexterity was basically of the form. Intro and Topic Sentence: I am proficient in many manual dexterity activities....blah blah Then make a paragraph describing each one. Same with all of the other stuff. Dental school adcoms care a lot about your other activities and they don't like being distracted by bad grammar and essays that are hard to read. I think writing everything you turn in is very important. Writing sloppy essays is like wearing sneakers and shorts to your interview. 🙂

Good Luck,
Jessica
