I was thinking of getting an alumni of a certain school to send a reference for me. However, it is much more of a 'character' reference rather than shadowing, or volunteering. Is this a good idea? I really want to attend that school and was hoping that he would attest to my deep deep interest in attending DS there.
This is because, as everyone knows, even if you have the stats, etc, you may still miss the school you want to go to and get accepted to somewhere else. I am hoping that will not happen. (but not like i have great stats
)
Thoughts?
the school is OK with sending additional LORs to the office. Did not ask if it was OK to send such a character reference though. Background is that he was my mentor way back. He knew my interest in dentistry back before HE even attended DS ~8 years ago. He is now specialized. I have since spoken to him often about various things including DS, but I have not shadowed him. He knows me through our long-time interactions.
