Any feedback about adelaide med school? Is it a well reknowned/recognised med school? And how does it compare to say unsw or melbourne or monash, or to irish/uk med schools?
Thanks!

adelaide is a good uni; i know there's at least one nobel laureate in medicine/phsyiology who's an adelaide medical graduate.🙂

it's one of the "group of 8" universities; you can't go wrong with adelaide.

being someone from Asia, i'm sure many other Asians would concur with me that the top 3 med schools in Australia will always be USyd, Melbourne, and UNSW. However, I believe each school has its own strengths and weaknesses, and all Australian med schools are of a very high standard.

What do Asians have to do with anything? I would be more interested in what Australians think about an Australian medical school. tsk tsk sounds like ethnocentric thinking....

I'll second firstcranialner. Unless tasses is considering practicing med in Asia (which could be possible, I don't know), then I don't see what relevance an Asian perspective of med schools has over an Australian's perspective. But I do think Adelaide is a good undergrad med school, and agree w/ D30417995 about the Go8 thing.

Are people in Adelaide pretty cool too?

I think it is more important to study the curriculum of the medical school program and see if it fits you. Think about the city too as you'll be spending a long time there...no offence but Adelaide is a slower city than say syd or melbourne (i've visited all 3)...depends what you like...Adelaide may be suitable for you. And consider the teaching hospitals in the individual cities too...

Hi,

I live in Adelaide and graduated from there.

Adelaide Uni is alright. As someone said the Uni of Syd, UNSW, Uni of Melb are more prestigous. Alot of ppl come to Adelaide as it's cheaper to live & study here. Pretty quiet place.

The course now involves alot of PBL but I heard anatomy lectures are almost now non existent. A few years ago they moved from a purely academic entry to a interview based entry with a UMAT test - it went great - the first year to go through only needed 81% in year 12 to get into medicine - previously it was 94%. 75% of the previous year got a credit or better for biochem. 75% of the new bunch failed biochem - but at least they're better touchy feely doctors. Go figure.

Things slowly got out of hand - a few years ago the heads of the cilnical units at the Royal Adelaide Hospital wrote a 'letter of concern' to the Med school dean about the quality of the medical students under the new entrance scheme.

It has now however gotten better. Final year exams now in 5th year.

Hi! I just spent 4 years going to medical school in Adelaide. I went to the other med school in adelaide, Flinders. I am from the U.S originally. Let me just say it was the best 4 years of my life. Adelaide is a fantastic place to live, a great city that is small but not too small. A perfect place for a foreigner to feel at home. Adelaide Uni is out of high school, is a 6 year program. It is a fantastic school, and is looked at very highly in Australia. It is also very beautiful. Flinders is also great. It is a 4 yr program, you need a degree first from an undergrad program. Outstanding education, and wonderful clinical teachers. I highly recommend Adelaide to anyone. I think Sydney and Melbourne are wonderful places to visit, but Adelaide it great to live in. And I am from San Francisco, so I know wht big cities are all about.
