My mother has been experiencing a disorder called "Frozen Shoulder" or "Adhesive Capsulitis". I don't know much about this disorder other than it affects woman of peri-menopausal/menopausal age.

My mother sought the advice of an orthopedic surgeon today. He told her that the doctors aren't sure about the causative factors. My mother doesn't have any of the risk factors which are :diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Parkinson's disease, and cardiac disease or surgery. My mother is going to receive cortisone injections in her shoulder to lessen the symptoms. She eventually will have to do some physiotherapy.

Comments on causative factors? Latest research? Treatments?

Thanks.

Treatment is as follows:

1. Do Nothing

2. Physical therapy, usually need atleast 2-3 months, may combine with a cortisone injection or not.

3. Closed manipulation under anesthesia, then intensive physical therapy, usually daily for a week or two, and then a few times a week.

4. Some circumstances even had to go in with a scope and lysis some adhesions to get things going and moving.
