hi!
I am an international student majoring in biology. I have a GPA of 2.93 and OAT score of 330 TS and 310 AA. I did well on all the sciences except quantitative resoning. I really want to go into optometry school and i wanted to know what my chances are for this year(2006). I just took the OAT and i have to wait 3 months in order to retake it in order to improve my scores.I am on a visa status and i really need to start school this year. I would appreciate your opinions.

thanks

are you just applying now? it is well into the application cycle and it takes at least a few weeks for schools to process your application, etc. your OAT looks pretty solid (right around the accepted average) but you GPA looks a bit on the low side. be sure to include all yout ECs when you apply. if you haven't already applied, apply NOW!! it is hard to pinpoint your chances at this point, but if you dont apply, youll never know. good luck. 🙂

Hey, neat! Mind if I ask which country and why did you choose to go to North America to study optometry?

I think you have a chance; however, it depends on which school you are going to apply.

It depends on which optometry school you are applying too,
But your OAT scores seem good enough and I wouldn't even bother re-taking them!
I applied to ICO and got accepted with a GPA of 3.00, and OAT AA 300.
Its possible!
Plus, optometry school in the states like international students.
The worst case scenario could be that you'll be placed on hold for a late acceptance, and they'll have to choose you from other potential candidates with similar grades. Most likely, they'll favour international/canadian students to appeal to that demographic, plus very few students apply from those areas anyways. So your chances to me, seem positive!

this is very true. 👍

I am an international student too, and I just wonder why the optometry schools favor international students?

By the way, Katalio, I am going to PCO for an interview. I am looking at scheduling my flight to Phili, I live in FLorida, do you know how far is it from the airport to PCO? Thanks.

From Airport to PCO is around 35-40 minutes drive. Depending on your choice of transportation. Are you going to stay at a nearby hotel? msg me if you have more questions! =)
