Does anyone know if any of these reasons would qualify one to defer their start date by a year (start with next year's class). I know each school has different requirements, but just wondering what types of things would *generally* qualify:

1. Spouse having surgery that requires lots of rehab (joint reconstruction, etc)
2. Spouse pregnant (probably not, I would think)
3. Parents sick

I think that deferring to take care of your spouse or parents when they are seriously ill (or in rehab, as in your first scenario) sounds legit. Probably not just because your partner is pregnant though. In that case, you would probably be granted a leave of absence to be with baby after the birth.
3 people in my class deferred - 2 of us because we were pregnant, the other because her mother was very ill.
