Hello, everyone! I hope everyone is doing well and dealing with the stress of the application process well! I am making this thread because I am sure many people have similar questions to me about how the application process works, so this is for the people that may have insight into admissions, or perhaps admissions directors who may view this forum.

I know that every school is different, but, generally speaking when it comes to how schools narrow their application size down to the applicants they choose to interview what goes into the process?

Do most schools simply narrow the applicants down first by GPA and GRE, or do they actually look at all 600+ applicants as a whole (LOR, job experience, essay, GPA, GRE, etc.) and then choose the applicants to interview? Also who exactly "decides". I did research with one of the professors that teaches the research course in the DPT school, I also shadowed with 3 clinical instructors at the school who spend half their day treating patients and the other half teaching the 2nd and 3rd-year students. Do these instructors have any say in the cohort? Or is their usually a separate committee who choose the cohort?

"Generally speaking," all schools look at everything you submit. If you want the specifics of each school and their criteria, I would suggest speaking to someone at that specific school and ask your questions. Some look at GPA, some GRE and GPA, some weigh essays heavily. It's very difficult to say what schools "generally" look at. Interviews are the same way. Some schools use a committee to conduct interviews and choose a cohort, some use a single person to conduct all interviews, some don't even do interviews, which also puts heavier emphasis on what you submit electronically. You can benefit much from doing school-specific research and getting your answers from them. Thats the only way you'll know for sure. It will take time and effort. But if it is something you are that concerned about, it is worth doing Good luck!
