Hey there, I am actually new to this fourm. I have read a lot of the posts, though, and found them really helpful. I am looking to go to Public Health School but had a few questions for those of you who have already been accepted or are currently enrolled. I tried to go on websites to check out the average GRE and GPA scores but I feel like that just doesn't give me real people information. Specifically, I would like to know the following about your admission to a school of public health:

1) What schools you applied to and if you got in

2.) What is your educational and work background

3.) What was your GPA and GRE scores.

While I know this information can be personal, feel free to be anonymous. I think having an idea of what qualifications helped in getting into school would benefit me and others on this site when creating a list of schools to apply to. Thank you very much.

Hihi!

Well, I guess I'll be the first to answer this question - I hope I'm not the last.

1) Applied: UC Berkeley, UCLA, Univ. of Michigan, Univ. of Massachusetts - Amherst, Univ. of Iowa, Columbia, Dartmouth, Yale.

Accepted: All except for UC Berkeley.

2) Education: BA in Sociology (with a lot of science background - was accepted to medical school but decided not to attend). 2 years part-time work experience in a community health setting.

3) GPA - 3.65, GRE 1230 - 740 Math, 490 Verbal (not so good), Analytical - 5.0.

I'll go ahead and post mine too. It really isn't that hard to get into a public health program so I wouldn't worry too much.

1) Emory, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Houston. I got into all of them with a full paid scholarship to UTH

2) B.S. Microbiology with lots of biomedical research

3) 4.0/1230

I really appreciate all the responses I have gotten. It really has enlightened me what I can expect from Public Health School.

Just so nobody feels like I am asking personal questions without giving any information about myself. Here's all the information I can give...

1.) I haven't actually applied to Public Health School, but Johns Hopkins is my number one choice. I am really looking for a program with a strong empahsis in Women's Health.

2.) I have 2 years experience in community health (specifially women's health) then 1 year+ as a registered nurse in an Emergency Room and a Juvenile Detention Center. I have two bachelors degree's a BA in Political Communication (from SFSU) and a BS in Nursing (from Johns Hopkins).

3.) I haven't taken the GRE's yet and my GPA get's confusing becuase of all the different schools but I know it's over 3.0.

If anyone would like to give me advice on my chances, that would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks Again!

Your creditials sound great. It's sounds like to you have some great experiences that will turn into a nice personal statement. Just get that annoying GRE done and it sounds like you're good to go. You shouldn't have any problem. Good luck to you.
