I really don't understand the deal with AZPOD, i requested info on their podiatry program and they sent me info about their chicago campus instead. I requested for a second time and today i got information about their PA program in AZ. I just want to know about their podiatry program!

Well I was wondering how the facilities and basic science program holds up when compared to other colleges... Any current student insight would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, what are the major pros and cons about AZPOD?

I did a search on the forums and found info which was a couple years old, does anyone have any current information?

Thank everyone!

When I applied, they seemed so disorganized too. People say the reason is because they are a new school, but comon, they have been around for 5 years already. I'm sure a bunch of applicants felt the same way as I did. Maybe adding in all these programs in a short time (dental, 100 new DO's, etc) are making things tough. The interview dates were weird last year - we had one set available like in 2-3 days and after that, you had to wait a full month to get another time to fly out there. Also, our only exposure to podiatry was a short session with the dean. Other than that, we were put with DO applicants and met only 1 pod student the entire day...and that was by chance.

Current students I've talked to say the program is rigorous and like it overall. We had 1 guy on these forums that was incredibly pro-Azpod, but I think he has since left the program (personal reasons)

check out the interview feed back about azpod. i interviewed there and have had the same unorganized responses from admissions people and never talked to a pod student while i was there.

I recently interviewed at both Azpod and Scholl, and actually got a better feel for Azpod.

-The Azpod interview day as a whole wasn't perfect, but the interview was significantly better than scholl. It seemed as though they truly cared about what kind of students they were accepting, rather than grades.
-Also their student base was very easy to talk to.
-Azpod campus was awesome and new
-they also try to be a family orrientated school, which is nice considering I am married
-They don't grade on a curve, which I prefer
-All in all they seem like a up and coming school to me

I am still working on the negatives
-hot in summer
-no scholarships
-new school with growing reputation but not as well known as some schools
-probably are more negatives but i interviewed there when it was 46 below zero at home and 75 degrees at Azpod

i agree. they were much more concerned with the individual person than scholl. scholl said "you have a good MCAT score. you will do fine here. the decision is yours." I had to bring up EC's and other stuff.

I am a 1st-year student at AZPod and a Student Ambassador. I have been told that the admissions department is still pretty disorganized this year. I think that anyone that interviews now will have at least a few first-year student be there to talk to. For whatever reason, they didn't get the first-year Student Ambassadors chosen until just after Thanksgiving, so that part of the issue has hopefully been solved. I can try to present a pro-con list, but understand that I chose to come to school here, so I am definately biased.

Pro:
  • Integrated with the DO students
  • New facilities (I think the oldest building on campus is less than 15 years old, and it was just remodeled)
  • As has been mentioned, family-friendly environment
  • Dr. Page, the Dean, is awesome and involved in the happenings throughout podiatry as a whole
  • The weather is pretty nice for most of the year
  • 100% first-time board pass rate ever since the program started
Con:
  • Mostly unorganized admissions department
  • Classes are combined with DO students, which means that lectures usually have 250 students
  • Weather (hot in the summer)
  • On-campus clinic has only been open a year and is still pretty slow
That's the main pro's and con's in general that I can think of. There are more individual ones I am sure. There has been a lot made of the homogenous nature of the school by some people who don't go there, but I haven't heard any of my fellow classmates complain. It is probably less diverse than other schools, but that is no big deal to me. If you need any other info, feel free to ask. There are a few 1, 2, and 3rd year students lurking around on here that can chime in too. Good Luck in looking at schools!:luck:

How homogenous is it actually there? I came from schools like Temple, Barry, CSPM, NYCPM to Azpod and it seemed to lack diversity (not just race, religion and gender too). The DO 1st years (since we were put with them more or less the whole day) were telling me its a mormon school.

Not bashing, just curious.

Just doing a little guessing, but I would say that around 25-30% are females in our class, around the same percent(30-35%) are Mormon, like 20% non-caucasian. The DO class seems to be more diverse (makes sense since they are more than 5 times larger than us), and since we meet with them I think that the class seems more diverse. But like I said, I don't think a lack of diversity is an issue for most of the people here. I personally think it would be great if it were more diverse here. I would love to see it more representative of the local population (ie more Hispanic and Native-American applicants).

wow first of all thank you everyone for this information, you guys are very helpful.

I looked all over the AZPOD website and couldn't find alot info on the average admitted stats.

Does anyone know what entering class and average stats are for this year and in the past?

Thanks!

I don't know the exact numbers, but I think AZPod's entrance stats are somewhat above the averages overall. I would be thinking along the lines of 3.3-3.4 GPA and 25 MCAT. Those are just educated guesses, but you should be competetive with scores around there.

When I applied last year the process was some what unorganized. I was contacted on a monday to see If I wanted to Interview on the Friday of that week. Being from Florida, I said it was impossible for me to make those arrangements. I Called back about a week later and asked about future interview dates. My advice would be to call the school when ever you have any questions. As for being a student here... I wouldn't change a thing. Students and professors a extremely easy to go along with. The campus is beautiful.

Azpod is a great school. I think a lot of people have heard good things, so when they notice something not so good, they can't believe it.
That being said, it is like any school, and has areas it can work on.

As for admissions, the biggest problem is that Azpod itself' does not run their own admissions. Midwestern is in charge, and yes, they have a lot of programs. They have room for improvement.

It may be little consolation, but know that it is not the Podiatry department in charge of interview day.

Not having first years as ambassadors has NOTHING to do with admissions. There are enough second years to do it without you guys. Not getting you until Thanksgiving was not ever an issue, and has nothing to do with peoples interview experience.

😳 Yeah, haha, sorry. I didn't mean to sounds like we were the all-important missing link. I did make it sound like that now that I reread my post. I was responding to JEWmongous here

He interviewed last year, and I had a similar experience then too. I was just trying to make the point that he will have ample opportunities to talk to 1st year and 2nd year students now. Sorry for coming off all high-and-mighty🙂
