Hey Guys,
I'm planning on applying to veterinary school this Fall 2009. However, I won't have all my prerequisites fulfilled until Spring 2010. I know most schools allow you to apply even though you haven't finished all the prerequisites yet, but I was curious to know if anyone was in this position and gained admission into veterinary school before all the prereqs were completed? Thanks in advance!

I think many (if not most) students that apply as a senior still have at least one prereq left (for my first app, I hadn't finished my 2nd semester of physics when I submitted my app). If you have been a strong student, this really shouldn't hurt your chances!

A lot of applicants (usually the tradtional applicants), have not completed all the pre-reqs, and gaining admissions may have a claus pending completion of these requirements.

For me, my acceptance was only final when i mailed my final transcripts with the completed pre-reqs i was enrolled in this spring. Vet schools are used to dealing with these types of applicants.

I had 3 classes to complete. I did 2 in the fall and 1 this semester. Some schools limit how many pre-reqs can be incomplete at the time of application and when those classes have to be completed.

In fact, I just completed my last exam!

I'm a non-traditional applicant - but I was accepted into Davis and Western with pre-reqs in progress (2 for Western and 5 for Davis - - - eek!)

Of course, some schools (like Western) only let you have certain classes in progress at application. So I would check with the schools before you apply just to make sure you're not wasting an application fee (I know some people who had that happen to them at Western).

EDIT: When I applied...I had 4 pre-reqs I was taking in the fall...and another 5 in the spring...so 9 classes total to be completed when I applied...

Be Careful - I was told it wouldn't be a problem and then after working hard on apps, I had to withdraw 2 because they had very specific requirements about deadlines for finishing pre-reqs or the number you could have left.

Check with the schools and do it by email so that you have written proof, or if you do it by phone, take down the name and record the basics of the conversation. It sounds like overkill, but it's so much better than learning the hard way.

I applied with a few pre-reqs to complete. I got a "conditional" acceptance the next semester, which meant if I didn't complete those pre-reqs I was currently enrolled in, the acceptance would be taken away. I think most schools are like that. I also think the majority of applicants still have pre-reqs to complete that last year before school. As long as you get them done, you'll be fine.
