Couple days ago, I rescued a puppy from my uncle, the story is a month ago my teenage cousin was visiting (she doesn't live in canada) for 2 weeks and somehow she decided to adopt this puppy, figured that her parents can take care of the puppy afterward (i know teenager). I tried to talk her out of it but feel that it isn't my place to push too hard. So one day my uncle was trying to stop the puppy from getting out, he used a staff to hit him and ended up breaking the puppy back leg. I found out about this days later, immediately drove over there and took the puppy to a vet, apparently my uncle broke two bones and require immedite care/surgery, anyway, it's a large sum but I feel responsible for not trying harder to stop my cousin, so I paid the vet bill. Now, I am at a crossroad, I already have a lab, I am a neat freak, so one can imagines having a large breed and active dog like a lab is really hard for me to deal with, but since I adopted him I figured I have no choice but care for him. One is really enough for me, i am taking care of this puppy at the moment, but I really don't think i can handle another large breed. Besides I am planning going back to school full-time next year (pre-vet, ha), so financially I don't know whether it's wise to take in another dog. Trying really hard to find someone to take the puppy, no luck so far. what do you think? Should I just keep him and deal with the consequence? Or keep on looking? What would you do?

I think the solution may be to keep him until you find a suitable home. A rescue may be able to help by offering the use of their advertising mechanisms (website, adoption fairs, etc). A puppy should be relatively easy to place but it may take some advertising.

Also, let the folks at the hospital where he was treated know that he needs a home. One of the staff members who bonded with him while he was hospitalized may be interested in adopting him.

Here's what I think you should do:

a) never let your uncle near the puppy again
b) contact a reputable animal shelter or rescue and explain the situation. Don't adopt this puppy unless you want another dog. What you can do is talk to the shelter and offer to foster the puppy until they have space for it or it's old enough to be fixed or the shelter can find an adopter. That way you avoid the possibility of the puppy being euthanized at the shelter, and you take some of the burden off the shelter, and you don't have that lifelong commitment to a dog you're not ready for, and the puppy goes to a home where it's not being beat up.

My advice is not to keep the puppy. If you are a neat freak and you don't think you can handle it, it will be difficult for you. I just got a puppy so I know. Find another home for the puppy ASAP.
